Dan and Dave came back to my section to join me in cheering on the Brewers getting the final 3 outs to cement the victory. Hoffman gave up a base hit but didn't allow anything more than that and the Brewers finished game 1 with a 12-6 victory. This was a game that they didn't deserve to win because Looper gave up 6 runs in the first 6 innings and we were going up against Wainwright. But the Cardinals pitching staff and defense gift-wrapped this game and gave it to the Brewers as an early Christmas present. I couldn't have been any happier because the Cardinals had this game won, but they blew it. In front of their own fans no less. But their team was going to the playoffs, not mine.

Even though the Brewers were up by 6 runs in the 9th inning and it was not a save opportunity, Trevor Hoffman came in to pitch anyway. He could have just shut it down for the season, but I'm guessing that Hoffman asked to go in and pitch. He wants to play.

The Cardinals had long since locked up the NL Central (and the playoff spot that goes with it) so these fans really had no reason to stick around and watch their team lose to the 3rd place Brewers. Especially after a Brewers 6 run 7th inning and a 5 run 8th inning. I was wearing my rally cap well before the outburst started so I will take some of the credit for the win today. I was cheering so loud and proud that I cleared out not only my section but the sections to the immediate left and right of me. So I was all alone up there cheering for my Brewers.

44,331 fans were in attendance, but I doubt that there were 4,331 left in the 9th inning. It was nice to beat the Cardinals and have the Brewers untuck their shirts in front of the fans that were still there to see it happen. It was a victory, but it was a rather small one. Now don't get me wrong, I am always excited to see the Brewers win. But after seeing Brewers Playoff baseball for the 1st time in 2008, this year was a real let down. But even though we weren't going to the playoffs, we were still technically playing October baseball (for today's date was 10/02/09).

Cheering all alone? What happened to Dan and Dave you ask? They were a few sections down talking to their friend Mark's parents. Mark is from St. Louis (currently lives in Milwaukee) and would be joining us for the Saturday and Sunday games.
