World Series of Beer Pong 2 - The Drive There |
The Hoover Dam is very important to the states of Arizona, California, and Nevada. In fact, off all of the energy produced by the Hoover Dam, 18 % goes to Arizona, 26% goes to Nevada, and a whopping 56 % goes to the state of California. It's pretty righteous. On the way down the mountain we were treated to the sight of Lake Mead, which was created when they dammed up the Colorado River. We pulled to the side of the road so I could take a picture, but my camera wasn't able to fully capture the majesty of the sight unfolding in front of me. |
We came into Las Vegas from the South, which is the first time that I have ever done that in the 6 years that I have been going to Vegas. It looked a little different that I was used to, but it was Vegas nonetheless. I was super excited and happy to be here. |
Everyone in the hotel was eagerly anticipating the tournament that would begin in the morning. I spent the night walking around the hotel and casino looking for familiar faces, and I certainly found a whole lot of them. But there were a lot of new faces mixed in amongst the crowd, and I introduced myself and found out where they were all from. Every room we went to we found people playing beer pong. We had beer pong discussions about rules, leagues, venues, etc. over a few frosty brews and I spent the majority of the night beating people at their table by their rules. I knew the competition would be steep this year, and it helped to get around and get a little taste of just how strong it would be. From what I saw, I wasn't afraid of anyone, and I knew that Hummel and I would have a pretty good shot at performing well out here. It was time to get to sleep though, because we needed to be well rested and alert for the 2nd World Series of Beer Pong. |
When we got to the hotel our rooms were not ready yet, so we hung out in the casino. We spent the day drinking and gambling, then made it to the liquor store for some fantastic Miller products. To keep them cold, we filled the tub with ice. Pure genius. |
Balkman is a very interesting fellow. I've known him for over 3 years now and I still don't really understand what makes him tick. For instance, he hates Las Vegas and everything that is associated with it (especially Danny Gans), and he appeared upset to be here at Hoover Dam. I thought that this place was absolutely fascinating, and I wish that we could have spent more time poking around. Thankfully I'm only 26 years-old, and I still have plenty of time left in my life to return to revisit places I have already been to, like Hoover Dam. |
