The tournament was scheduled to begin until about 11:00 am, but much like every huge undertaking, there were delays. Every morning, you are required to check in, show ID, and get a bracelet so that they know you are who you say you are and that you will be here here for the day's events. I was early, so I decided to check everything out.

This arena was significantly bigger than the convention center where last year's tournament was held. It was understandable, seeing as there were 250-some teams versus 82 last year. Last year, there were 16 tables going at once. This year, there was an amazing 50 tables playing at the same time. It doesn't look like a whole lot now, but as soon as the bodies hit the floor, this place would fill with the echoing of ping pong balls hitting cups. It was great to see this place so empty, for it would be a good contrast to later in the day when it was teeming with people.

The majority of people were already in attendance. A couple of stragglers were still trickling in, but Duncan and Billy decided to address the crowd. They co-founded Bpong.com, and put together both WSoBP I + II. They said a few kind words, then we were ready to begin round 1 on the first day of the competition.

Hummel and I were in Division 7, which had the pleasure of playing first in the tournament. There were only a few teams that knew us from last year, so a win in the first game would be a chance to for us to start a reputation as world class beer pongers. A 1st round win would also validate all of the hours we have spent playing this game.

Game 1 would pit us against the Greasy Guidos from Maryland. It was a hard fought battle, but Hummel that Shit! wound up winning by 1 cup. I will take some time on the next non-video page to explain the WSoBP 2007 rules, most of which played to our advantage.

Denise and Katee could go head-to-head with any team out there because they were from Milwaukee and the CHBPL. I think most of the opposition underestimated them, because they were an all-girl team. They proved everyone wrong when they beat The Celebrity's from Cleveland, OH by 1 cup in a nail-biting finish.

When I woke up in the morning I took a look outside of my room and saw this massive tent. I had already seen it on the way into town, but I had no idea what treasures lie inside. This would be the place where I would be spending the majority of my time over the next few days, so I hope it's hospitable and comfy.
