Trip 2005 - Lake Tahoe |
The drive from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe is only about 2 hours, but it was two of the most wonderful hours I spent in the car on this trip, mostly because of the scenery. Ok, so Tim and Sarah also had something to do with it. We drove through the mountains to get there, and the environment was drastically different than everything else that we have seen thus far. We got our first glimpse of snow since the end of the Wisconsin winter, and the temperatures had dropped considerably. At this point, we had no idea what we were getting into. |
The elevation changed drastically as we got closer to Lake Tahoe. Usually that happens when you go from the mountains to the desert. We were driving downhill the entire time, and the only thing separating the road from the edge of the mountain was this metal barrier. At times we got so dangerously close to it that Tim could hang out the window and look down to the bottom of the ravine. |
The ground below us wasn't as far as it looks like in this picture, in fact it was even further than it looks. For some reason, cameras cannot adequately capture the distance from the point you are standing to the point you are looking down to. It's such a shame. |
This stretch of the drive was so cool that we had to stop the car, get out, and check everything out. There was a space where you could pull off, most likely reserved for emergency purposes only, but we decided to utilize it for our personal viewing purposes only. |
Tim and I sat on the side of the road and became one with nature. I guess it makes sense because we all were originally part of nature when the world began, and only recently have we become one with technology and urbanized society. Tim and I were just reverting back to a simpler time where none of that stuff mattered, and our animal instincts took over and led us here into the wild. We sat on the rocks and took a little bit of a timeout before heading back into civilization. |
