Trip 2005 - Golden Gate Bridge |
Jenny and I stop for one last picture before we put our feet back on solid ground. It's a nice treat to be suspended over the water, but I was born on ground, I'm gonna die on the ground, and someday I'll be buried in the ground. |
The Western coastline of California is beautiful, especially in the Northern regions like San Francisco. This image captures that beauty wonderfully, especially with the setting sun. The photographer who took this should be given an award. |
The sun was going down, finally setting below the horizon. This allows for the beautiful colors to emerge and dominate the sky. Aren't things great in this country? Moments like this make me think of the song America the Beautiful. I'm sure that Katharine Lee Bates saw moments like this happen when she penned that famous patriotic song. The beauty of this moment reinforces the drive that I've had all of my life to get out here and see this part of the country with my own eyes. |
On the way back to our car, we had little left to do before we left. Since it was Sunday evening, the gift shop was no longer open. I guess that's ok because the last thing that I need to muddle up my apartment are tacky souvenirs. We did find this piece of cable used in the suspension of the bridge, which is actually 61 smaller cables wrapped together. This cable is approximately 1 meter wide and strong enough to bear the load of the bridge. It certainly is strong enough to bear the load of these kids. |
This would be the last image I was left with as I got into my car, and it would also be the best picture that I have taken all day. I don't credit myself as a great photographer, but I'd like to think that I have a good eye for fantastic images. This picture remains as one of the best that I have ever taken throughout my entire career. There's something about it that makes it stand out above all of the others from this day. I can't help but look at it and reminisce about all of the fond memories that I have of San Francisco. Without a doubt in my mind, it ranks as one of the top 5 cities that I've visited. I'd say it is #1, but I have trouble calling something the best after only 1 experience. But this city certainly does stand out among the rest. |
