Scott and Joey Kanz go to St. Louis |
Much debated had been surrounding Milwaukee's outfielder and long-term Brewer Geoff Jenkins. His status for the 2007 season was up in the air. Entering the final year of the contract, many people felt that he should be traded following his lackluster 2006 season. I was worried that this would be the last time I would see Jenkins. |
The young Corey Hart was given an opportunity to showcase his talents, and he nailed the audition. He really came alive during the final month and socked a lot of homeruns, and gave fans something to be excited about for the 2007 season. |
I've been a big Bill Hall supporter since he first broke into the club in the 2002 season. I was surprised by his versatility in 2005 when he moved around the infield and got 501 at bats. 2006 was his huge break-out year, as he filled in for the injured J.J. Hardy at shortstop and clubbed 35 homeruns and had 85 RBIs. Bill Hall wins games. |
I had planned to travel to the top of the Arch after the game, but I don't think that I let Kanz in on my plans. I last visited this National monument in January of 2002 during my family's move back to Wisconsin after living in California for 6 months. |
The game could have been classified as a pitchers duel between Ben Sheets and Jeff Suppan. At the time, I would never have thought that these two would be teammates in 2007, but my Christmas wish came true when the Brewers signed Suppan as a free agent on December 24th of 2006. The game cruised along until the 7th inning, when the Brewers scored 2 runs on a Jeff Cirillo pinch-hit double. Joe and I were super excited, but the Brewers gave up 3 runs in the bottom half of the 8th inning and ended up losing 3-2. It was a tough loss to swallow, but we tried to be as optimistic as possible because we still had a little time left before we left town. We put the game behind us and walked over to the Arch to learn about Lewis, Clark, and westward expansion. |
