Afterglow RFT VI: Styx - Afterglow |
As luck would have it (or as God herself scripted it), I found my way down to the beach with the intent of going in the water. You might ask, "But why Scotty, why? It's November? Why would you go swimming in a cold body of water?" The only logical response that comes to mind is because it is there. And I was there. What was I supposed to do? Pass up the opportunity to swim in the greatest lake ever? Heck no! |
I waded out to the edge of the shallow end and dropped under the water for as long as I could handle it. If you've never been in the water at Afterglow in November, then trust me when I say that I was out there long enough. In fact, I was probably out there longer than any other sane person would ever admit (and prove with photo and video documentation). If it was evident by now, I have problems that are not ever going to be resolved by conventional standards, so you might as well just deal with it. That's what I am doing and it hasn't failed me yet. I spent too much time in the water that I might have been getting used to it, so it was time to come back in to shore and put some clothes on before all that coldness got to my head. |
Now that I got that out of my system, I relaxed on the dock and enjoyed what little time I had left here. Time, like almost everything, is a finite resource. I'm lucky to be able to come up here more than just once a year but even so, that wasn't enough. When I'm here nothing else matters and I can just sit back and live in the moment. Life is but a series of moments strung together by a loose narrative, so it would continue beyond this one until my story comes to a close. It wasn't at year 24 like my brother's was, but one could argue that his still isn't finished as long as we keep it going. And that's why we Rage for Timmy. And we also must remember to Rage for Ourselves as well. |
Home |
I left in the morning on Friday October 28th and got back home in the night on Friday November 4th. I didn't plan this one out well enough at the end because I could've stayed up at Afterglow for another night or two before coming back home (as I didn't have to be back at work until Monday). But after being on the road, it was good to be back home. Korben Dallas welcomed me back by scratching the shit out of my face (I guess he missed me) and then I had a fire. I guess that is the way it goes. Business as usual around these parts. |
With that I said my goodbyes to Afterglow, Gail and the dogs (Pete and kids were out West somewhere biking the Rockies or something) and begun the 5 hour drive back home. It's always sad leaving Afterglow, but with this being early November, the window of time for me being back here in July just got a whole lot shorter. So there will be very few tears in my eyes as I leave this place and return to the real World. |
