Afterglow RFT VI: Styx - Lake Bemidji Park & Paul Bunyan Playground

It was a Wednesday and the kids were at school. Katie was still on maternity leave and Mike took today off of work too (as this would be my last day in Bemidji). They took me across town to Bemidji State Park to walk around and experience the joy and beauty of the outdoors. I guess they just knew that I don't get out much and could use a little exercise. And I was thankful for the opportunity to see the best of what Northern Minnesota had to offer. I soaked it all in but then realized that I was dripping wet with the outdoors, so it was time to head home.

Is there anything better than this? A perfectly timed sunset, pretty colors only found in cotton candy and gas station slushies, good friends that are really family, fun times that create everlasting memories, temperate weather for this time of year, giant statues of Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox and other unmentionables that are on the tip of the tongue. I'm so glad that I finally made it here to visit The Bates family and I knew it that it would be hard to leave here tomorrow. But that's what happens on an adventure. You can't stay in one place.

After the kids came home from school we went and grabbed some dinner at Taco Bell. After dinner we went back to Paul Bunyan Park (which as you recall from yesterday was where we docked after our canoe adventure) and got to see another fabulous sunset. I can never get enough of the moment when our precious sun dips below the horizon and the day turns into night. It's one of my favorite things ever.

This playground has a roller slide, a merry go round that you can't fall off of and giant sized swings that even I could fit into. I've been to my fair share of playgrounds, so I feel confident in saying that this is the best playground ever. I was having such a good time chasing the kids around, goofing off and pretty much having the most fun ever. I could get used to this. Too bad I don't have a family to do things with.
