Afterglow RFT VIII: Before It's Too Late - Day 3 |
Yesterday was Memorial Day and today was #BaconWednesdays, despite it technically being a Tuesday. This is because my Dad made bacon for breakfast and I managed to snag a slice before he gave it all to the dogs. You gotta fight for your meals around those savages. |

It is beautiful up here at all times of the year, but Fall brings an extra level of beauty as the leaves start changing colors. Unfortunately we were a little early and only one lone tree was showing a color other than green. But it sure is a pretty shade of red that stands out. |
If you follow along with the Summer Afterglow posts, then you know that the day that we leave always seems to be a perfect weather day.... BUT NOT TODAY!! I kind of wish that it was but at the same time glad that it wasn't. If it was then I would have wanted to stick around here and enjoy what little time I had left, which would have resulted in me getting home too late and being all messed up tomorrow. But as I walked down to the dock to get one last glimpse, the lake was still as beautiful as she is on a perfect day. And that is one of the truest facts. |
We got the VIP Late Checkout of 1030am (normally 930am) as a result of being Platinum Members in the Afterglow Lake Resort Rewards Program. The more you Go, the more you Glow! No such club exists, as we were only allowed to check out late because it was a Tuesday and no one was checking in today. It had been raining all night and I awoke at several times to listen to it. There isn't much better than being out in the woods and listening to a storm at night while being safe and dry. But this prohibited me from going back out to Memory Point to say goodbye to Timmy as it would be too wet and muddy to make the trip. But I'm sure he understands and forgives me. The other thing that it prevented was driving home with the top down on the convertible. While it did kind of ruin my good time, I was able to get a great road pic of the rain. |
Seeing as I had plenty of time to get home, I took a very scenic route. This took me along roads past farms and fields and where I would be driving for long stretches of time without seeing another car. I was able to pull over at my leisure to take a pee or a picture and didn't have to worry about anyone seeing or interrupting it. This is all that I have ever wanted and all that I needed. Things could not have been any better. |
I was having one of the better drives of my life in the middle of nowhere when something felt wrong. I pulled over to side of the road and saw that indeed something was wrong - I had a flat tire. Since this was a narrow road with no shoulder, I drove until I found somewhere safe to pull over, which happened to be the parking lot of an Auto Repair shop near Antigo... that was closed today. Luckily I had one last PBR in my cooler and a spare tire in my trunk. So I changed the tire but it was only going to be a temporary fix as it was one of those "doughnut" tires. Seeing as I still had 3 hours of driving until home, I had to get a real tire to make the trip. This led me to a Walmart in Antigo, which delayed my return home and added some expenses to the bottom line. But there are always costs associated with travel, so I had no choice but to accept it. |
