Afterglow RFT VII: A Little Slice of Heaven - Day 2

I first sat by the fire in the driveway but decided that I wanted a more natural warmth and smell. So I moved downstairs and built a real fire with real wood. I made myself a s'more and got marshmallow all over my face. I don't know how to not be a child. But I know how to be an adult and not set myself on fire. I wanted to get as close to the flames as possible because it was rather cold out. I couldn't get warm enough without setting myself on fire. Since that is not a realistic possibility (without dying) I went in the hot tub instead. Might as well take advantage of it.

We were staying in Cabin #1 (home to the Burgetts and McKissicks during regular Afterglow) so I had to walk across the street to walk down the hill to the lakefront. It was no more of a walk had I been staying in any other cabin, so I don't know why I made it seem that way. One of the reasons why I love coming here is that I get to wake up to this. For my money (or my Dad's money), there is no better view.

Since I got up here late yesterday with just enough time to swim before dark, I didn't have a chance to go to Memory Point. So after breakfast I walked out there with Dad, Percy, Trixie and Buffy.

I had Lucky Charms with Milk in a measuring cup with a giant spoon for breakfast. Kathy asked if I was crazy (because I didn't use a bowl instead) and I told her that I'm an adult and I do what I want.

As hard as it is to come out here (even 6 years after Timmy died), it's the whole reason that I'm at Afterglow in the off-season. So it would be a total waste if I didn't spend some time at Memory Point. It was an absolutely beautiful morning and since it was September, I didn't have to worry about all of the bugs and mosquitos that make it a miserable time here in the Summer. I have no idea how long I spent here today but time is irrelevant at Afterglow. No time at Afterglow is wasted. You spend as much time as you need anywhere and everything is perfect.

I swam out to the HD with my floating cooler packed with provisions as I planned on spending the afternoon out here. The first thing that I did was plant my Pirate flag firmly on the upper level as to declare this vessel mine in the name of Piracy. Since I was in International Waters, no Police Force or Government Military Unit could capture me or prevent me from engaging in any activities. Up here I was free to be me and rage in the manor in which I saw fit. And the way that I saw fit was to show people my true colors - the black, the white and the red. Not that there was anyone around to see those colors...

One person and one dog did come out in the water to check on me but they dared not come upstairs. My Dad and Percy stayed in the kayak as they circled the raft and questioned every single moved that I made. He wouldn't be my father (and care about me) if he didn't.

Since it was early September, the temperature was in the low 60s. That made it difficult to hang up here for hours without protection, which is why I brought a hoodie in my floatie cooler. I also brought along Jewel's book Never Broken and listened along to the audio track she recorded for it. Sorry for the long face, but it's kind of a memoir of her life and not everything has been filled with happy moments. But it's not all bad though and eventually I looked up from the book and saw the World around me. Hard to be upset when these are your surroundings.

I periodically jumped off the HD into the water to reset my internal temperature and remind myself that it was indeed Fall. Thanks to the sun, I was able to dry off quickly and put my hoodie back on. I did this on repeat over the course of 4 hours before deciding to call it a day. I must have said something to Pete about the hot tub because when I got back in, it was full and ready for me to warm myself up. This place really knows how to treat their high rollers. I'll have to remember that when I sign for the tip. It was a perfect way to end the daylight hours.

Twilight may be my favorite kind of light. Although I cannot verify that right now because I don't feel like looking up all kinds of lights and ranking them right now. But how could there be a better one? Just look at the pictures below and tell me that another light can make images like this possible. Save it. I also don't feel like looking for responses and doing any kind of work right now. Not when these pictures are here.
