Brewers vs. Reds in Cincinnati |
I have many baseballs with signatures of past and present Brewers players, but this ball will always be special to me. I don't think that it was actually used in the game, but it has some wear and tear on it from being tossed around in the bullpen. This means that Derrick Turnbow and Francisco Cordero may have touched it. |
During the game, we had found some other Wisconsin randoms and we were talking up a storm. I even moved to a different section and talked for a bit, seeing as I had broken my stadium seat. It happened sometime during the 5th inning, but I tried to hover above it until it broke completely. I then moved a row behind the other guys and sat in comfort for the remainder of the game. When the game was over, we all gathered for a blurry group shot. It wasn't until I was sober that I realized that the picture was blurry, not my vision. |
After the game ended (with the Brewers winning, I must add) we were hooting and hollering as the bullpen players and coaches headed in to the locker room. I started shouting at any Brewers player who would look my way, and bullpen coach Marcus Hanel tossed me a baseball. I know I say it a lot, but this truly was the greatest day of my life. I've been going to Brewers games since I was in the Coca Cola Kids Club, and I have never gotten a ball during batting practice or in a game. That's damn near 20 years of games without going home with the ultimate a free souvenir! When he tossed me that ball, I saw 20 years of baseball memories culminate into one grand moment. Life has never been sweeter. |
Suppan gave up a 3 run homer in the 2nd inning, but that was the only blemish on the scoreboard. Prince Fielder hit his 43rd home run and Rickie Week's RBI triple in the 9th set the table for Cordero to save the game. It's was really exciting, and there were a good amount of Brewers fans on hand to cheer and celebrate the win. |
