South Carolina 2011 - The Return |
Since we were already 1 1/2 hours closer to home, we left right from Charlotte and drove overnight. Somewhere in the middle we had to stop because the freeway was shut down. Kevin did tucked and rolled out of the car when we were stopped and basked in his glory. |
There was no warning that the freeway was closed ahead and we got stuck in a place where we weren't able to get off. So we shut off the car and just sat there for well over an hour until traffic started moving again. It was the middle of the night so we couldn't see anything and I'm sure traffic behind us got diverted around whatever caused this nonsense. When we started pulling forward we saw a semi-trailer overturned in the median and it was all burned out like it caught on fire. I tried to get a picture but it was night. There was debris everywhere and I understand why the road was closed but still it sucked. Kevin was doing his best to amuse me but by this time I just wanted to be back home. |
Kevin either lost a pair of sunglasses or had recently traded them for some magic beans or whatever else he gets in return while peddling his wares. So he decided to buy another pair when we stopped for gas somewhere. He always has a plan but it doesn't makes sense to me. |
We made some really good time coming home and I wasn't expecting to be back in the morning hours. Even though we were stopped for over an hour but I suppose we gained an hour by heading West. I had taken off of work Monday because I knew we wouldn't be back by 930am although we were pretty damn close. I don't know what I was thinking on Thursday night, but I left my keys inside the house and my roommate was at work, so I was essentially locked out. Thankfully I had left my bedroom window unlocked and I was able to "break in" and shimmy inside. When I got in the house I found out what Coach Bombay and Kevin Spacey do while we're at work. In case you can't figure it out for yourself, let me give you a hint - they don't strain themselves. Life's pretty tough as one of our pets. I wouldn't know. I work for a living. |
I know that Gary was driving when we stopped on the freeway and I was driving before that. And I also know from this picture that Kevin was driving once it was daytime again. That allows me to say without a shadow of a doubt that we all shared the driving responsibilities on the ride home and we were able to safely return from one hell of a road trip. Gary and Kevin are awesome and I'm glad that they agreed to come down here with me. It was a long car ride home and I'm just happy that I made it home safe and I didn't go insane locked up with these two. |
This was an amazing trip. I had a great time visiting James + Melissa and I'm glad Gary and Kevin decided to make the trip with me. And also it was really cool that Uncle Gary came all the way from California to join us out there. I miss my brother and sister-in-law and I wish that they lived back home in Wisconsin but it sure is nice to have someone to go visit to break up the monotony of my every day life. I need something to constantly look forward to (hence my Afterglow countdown every year) so I love my annual fall trip to the SC and I can't wait for the next one. |
