Portland February 2015 - Day 3 |
We did a lot of drinking on this trip. This was ok because we really like drinking and Portland had plenty of establishments and beverages to satiate our never-ending thirst. Next was The Lucky Labrador, a dog-friendly microbrewery. We brought along Kelly's dog Stone and there were plenty of other dogs around. This isn't normally my scene, but the beer was good. So I'll let them slide. But seriously - dogs? C'mon pal! |
I slept in the guest bedroom on the ground floor, which is right next to the living room. I woke up early, so I turned on Netflix and streamed Saved By The Bell. Jenny woke up shortly thereafter (her alarm must have gotten out of order but still she made it on time) and joined me. Then we sat outside with Kelly and Stone before setting a course of action for the day. We decided to go out for breakfast at a local joint Kelly frequents. |
This place was called Mehri's Cafe & Bakery and we got served by Mehri herself. Jenny and I ordered a Bloody Mary but they didn't know what a beer chaser is. I learned a while back that this is a Wisconsin thing, so we ordered an IPA to split. It was a beautiful morning and we sat outside. I'm sure that the locals were cold (it was still Winter after all), but Jenny and I were loving this. I love my home, but this made me question Wisconsin. |
Jenny is always very clear on what she wants for breakfast - biscuits and gravy for days. Luckily Mehri served up a generous helping of this savory dish and Jenny Reck crushed the shit out of it. I got an omelet and potatoes and it was amazing. I love people who know how to cook and believe in themselves so much, that they open up a restaurant and share their talents with others. And I love breakfast. I don't eat it every day, but when I have the time, there's nothing better than going out and having someone serve you up some delicous. |
Kelly wanted to take us out to a part of town that had what I like to call "Jenny Stores". I'm not knocking her style, but if you've ever seen the way that she dresses, you'd understand exactly what I'm talking about. It's kind of hippie-ish, with vibrant colors and intricate patterns. I'm too conservative (and too adorned with Brewers gear) to get into something like this, but it was an interesting time. |
In the Reck Family Christmas letter of 2013 (and then again in 2014), I made plenty of references to the elusive Sasquatch/Bigfoot monster that roams the wooded areas of the Pacific Northwest. I saw this air freshener but I didn't buy it. Apparently this one eluded me too. On the streets I saw this homeless guy with a cat on a leash that slept on his tummy. And just when I thought that I saw it all. Well done Portland. Well done. |
