Portland February 2015 - Day 4

We walked along the beach and took many pictures from every angle. You can see them all below. There are many more. More than I will ever need and more than anyone wants to see. I couldn't help myself. But I chose the best of the best that highlight our afternoon here at Goonie Beach. I imagined One-Eyed Willie's Pirate Ship sailing out along the horizon, free from its' cave to once again traverse along the ocean waters. It didn't matter that he and his entire crew was dead. In my mind, none of that mattered. I'm a Goonie. And Goonies never say die. They may say a lot of other things (so many not fit for a PG movie), but die will never be one of them.

I got one last look at the sea before heading back to the car. I don't know how long it would be until I would see the Ocean again, so I wanted to soak up all that I could at this moment. It truly is a sight to behold in person, something that these pictures cannot convey. When we got back to the car, Jenny Reck kept goofing around like a little kid. That's what Goonie Beach does to you. It truly is a magnificent place.

Goonie/Haystack Rock looks so ominous sitting out there in the water. I don't pretend to know anything about science or how things form. How is it that a giant rock can exist down here when the entire landscape is a flat sandy beach.? Nature, geology or the sheer will of God is incomprehensible to me. Since I can never try and explain it, I just sat back and marveled at the beauty and the greatness of this place. It was something that cannot be taken for granted and a memory that I will always treasure. It was amazing to be there.

I had a pretty rowdy crew to roll with on Goonie Beach and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some things are just meant to happen and play out accordingly. We walked along and enjoyed each other's company. And how could we not? We're all lively and entertaining folks after all. You try and hang out with any one of us and tell me that nothing is going to happen. That's the way that it is. Deal with it. I certainly did.

While walking back towards the village and where we parked the car, I wandered out into the sea. I was surprised how far out that I was from the dry sand. I don't get the tides either, but they must have been out at this time. That or it was incredibly shallow. I wouldn't go any further though, as I'll be damned if I let a creature from the sea get the best of me. While in the ocean, my feet shall never leave the touch of land.
