My good friend Michael Balkman (whom I met while attending UWM) got married in January. Balkman and I have been through a lot together. We worked at the UWM Union and he was my boss during my last few years, we played in the CHBPL Beer Pong League, we went out to many World Series of Beer Pong tournaments in Las Vegas, we've spent many nights at the bar that we can and cannot remember and we went on several Brewers roadtrips together. I'm sure there's some life moments that I am leaving out, but I don't need to try and point them all out here. That doesn't really matter now because he was having a bigger life moment - he was getting married to Lucy. So when he asked me to be there for this special day, of course I obliged. That was the best part. To see two people make a commitment to each other to spend the rest of their lives together making each other happy. One can be so lucky. But even though I can get down with that sappy happiness bullshit, I was really there for the free booze. And luckily this wedding was at The Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. The beer was plentiful, I danced like I wasn't out of shape and I even got time to pay homage to two great men. There are statues of Frederick Pabst and King Gambrinus. Pabst (of course) founded the Pabst Brewery and is responsible for creating Pabst Blue Ribbon. His contribution to the World goes without saying. Gambinus is often called the patron saint of beer, so whenever I am in his presence, I must pay homage to my liege by getting down on one knee. They are both here in one spot, which makes this place so magical. Balkman and Lucy couldn't have picked a better place to get married, and I was so fortunate to be a part of it. Hanging with Pabst and Gambrinus was a plus. |
