When I went out for the premiere of Last Cup : Road to the World Series of Beer Pong at the CineVegas Film Festival in June 2008, I got to meet Dennis Hopper. He is the chairman of the Film Festival, and he seemed like a really nice guy. He was nowhere near as evil as I had seen him as Howard Payne in Speed, Deacon in Waterworld, and King Koopa in Super Mario Bros. I met King Koopa from the live action Super Mario Bros.! How freakin' sweet is that? How many of you have met Dennis Hopper? How many of you know that there was a live action Super Mario Bros.? How many of you have seen it? And lastly, how many of you actually own a copy on VHS and DVD? I'm guessing that no one except me can answer "I have, I know, I have, and I own one." That's because I'm a big dork who purposely does things like this in order to fulfill childhood dreams. The meeting Dennis Hopper thing was an accident, but if everything happens for a reason, then I was meant to star in this movie so that I could meet one of the people who portrayed one of my childhood video game evil villains. It wasn't his most memorable role (as far as the rest of the Universe and the Academy of Motion Pictures are concerned) but to me Mr. Hopper, you will always be King Koopa. I just wish that I could of had the guts to say to him, "I loved you in Super Mario Bros. Mr. Hopper! Especially when you ran from the slow walking bomb-omb that Mario placed on the ground. That was classic! What was it like working with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo?" From what I read on the internet, the filming of the movie couldn't have gone any worse, and to this day, Hoskins, Leguizamo and Mr. Hopper all claim that it was the worst movie that they ever worked on. So I guess I did good by not bringing that up. So I just shook his hand, thanked him for the festival, and smiled for the picture. So now forever I get to say I met Dennis Hopper. Sweet. |
