Today I would be leaving Canada, and after the shenanigans that I pulled up here, it may be for good. I don't know if they will let me back into the country. I started the day out the way that I start every day when I am vacation by mixing myself a strong drink. I finished off the bottle of 12-year old Canadian Club that I bought last night, then picked up another bottle a the Duty Free Store on the border. For some reason, you are able to purchase some shit here that is exempt of sales tax, and when you pay in Canadian Funny Money, you get a good deal. My bottle of whiskey, which retails in the USA for like $26, only cost like $22 USA here, which for those not good at math is a $4 savings. Not too damn bad at all. Aaron and Melissa purchased some stuff too, and when Aaron handed the cashier his money he said, "I'd like to buy 2 houses on Boardwalk" (referring of course to Canada's fake looking colored money). She didn't even crack a smile. And I though Canadians were supposed to be funny. I guess Mike Myers, Rick Moranis and the not-Wendy's Dave Thomas are the only ones. |
I previosuly mentioned that there are two ways to (legally) enter Canada - the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel which we took the last few times, and the Ambassador Bridge, which we took today. The tunnel is cool because you are going underground and under the river, but bridges are cooler because you get to see things as you are crossing them. |
People say that Detroit is a scary place. I don't know what they are talking about. Unless the scaries only come out at night. Then in that case I didn't have the proper evidence to believe that claim. The only scary thing that I saw was people who actually support the Tigers and publicly identify themselves as a fan of this team. Yikes! |
We parked the car for about 5 blocks from the stadium and for something like $5. We thought parking was going to be atrocious and expensive, which is why we took the bus yesterday, but today we found out that it wasn't. Then of course, today could have just been different because it was Sunday. I'll never know for sure. |
I know that I complained about our seats yesterday, but at least yesterday we had a seat to park our rumps in. Today the only tickets that were available were standing room only. We found a spot along the fence behind the bleachers in right center field to stand. We had an unobstructed view, but we still had to stand. |
Oh Canada + Motown Madness - Brewers vs. Tigers in Detroit |
Why the hell were there so many people here today? I guess that it was a Sunday in June, a nice day and a great pitching duel between Verlander and Gallardo, but this was ridiculous. I didn't know that this many people cared about baseball in this city. Detroit's metro population has a little more than twice as many people than Milwaukee, but since we pack Miller Park pretty steadily on a daily basis, then Detroit can do it too. I guess I just never realized that Detroit was a big baseball town. I thought hockey and football ruled this town. |
