New York City Spring Break - Day 1
These are my Pookon on Top of the World pictures. Now all that I am missing is the fancy cars, the women and the caviar. That one's for you Jenny. I decided to make these pictures seem like I was teetering over the edge seconds from disaster. The problem is that I'm still here to serve as living proof that I didn't fall off the building that evening. Wait a second, how is that a problem?!?
The sun was setting in the West, much as it does every day of the year, but today I saw it from 850 feet in the air. We decided to wait up here until sunset because then we would be treated to a different view of NYC. I figured it would be worth the wait.
I look towards the East and towards Queens, and try to imagine the rough and tough life of the other NYC boroughs. On this trip we didn't venture outside of Manhattan, so maybe next time we can so a little more exploring and get to know the other side of NYC.
The sun was setting on the Central Park side as well, as NYC was preparing to turn down the natural light and turn up the artificial lights. Big beautiful Central Park would now turn into big scary Central Park. I only saw a bit of it, but I could imagine how scary it would be at night. I hear there's bears and coyotes running wild.
No area of NYC turns on the artificial lights better than Times Square. I hope they have a power plant devoted to this section of town because these buildings never shut down. If you've been there than you'll understand. If not, you'll just have to wait for the next installment of NYC SB when Jenny and I go to Times Square at night.
Night time was here and that meant that we needed to go back to our hotel and say goodbye to the big scary city. We didn't really mind because Jenny and I were planning on coming back tomorrow during our Dad's work hours. He actually had a purpose of being out here; he was currently working on a project for Kraft (yes, the Macaroni and Cheese company) and couldn't play hooky two days in a row. He wasn't upset because he has come to terms with the fact that he has to work everyday and cannot play around. I still haven't grown up, and Jenny is a good 3 years away from joining the professional world, so we didn't mind blowing every responsibility off to go and goof around in the greatest city on Earth. Gosh I hope the city of Milwaukee isn't reading this because I don't want her to get jealous of my new found love. You have to understand Milwaukee, NYC is a city that I want to visit for a few days, but Milwaukee is a city that I can proudly introduce to my parents and settle down with. You should be happy.
I couldn't stop taking pictures of things like the Empire State Building because I was excited about seeing it for the first time. When they turned on the lights, I got to see it look differently than it had not only 1 hour earlier.
Jenny had gone inside because it was "cold as balls" outside, but my Dad Mike stuck around to see the sunset. He refused to join me on the top level, choosing instead to huddle behind the wind blocking glass panels. From where I was standing, it looked like a great decision.
