Home

While I was wondering around Central Park, I noticed that life was beginning to return after its winter hiatus. Sure the grass was still green and the trees were still brown, but we had yet to see any other color until I saw these purple leaves on this tree. Since this was the first non-Earth tone, it really caught my eye and made me smile.

I appreciate several things. If you are a frequent visitor to this site, then you understand my fascination with heavy machinery and tunnels. I pose this question for you then - what passes over a tunnel? That would be a walkway, which is in turn a bridge. A tunnel lies under a bridge and trolls guard bridges. I give a thumbs up to all of that.

I knew that this thing to the left had to be important, but at the time I didn't know what it was. It turns out that it is an genuine Ancient Egyptian obelisk (a tall, thin, four-sided, tapering monument which ends in a pyramidal top. They were used often in Ancient times, but modern ones exist as well (think of the Washington Monument in Washington D.C.).

The Great Lawn area is the largest open grass area of Central Park. It was here that bands like Simon and Garfunkel (1981) and The Dave Matthews Band (2003) played free concerts for hundreds of thousands of fans.

Next on our stop was Belvedere Castle, which is not named after Bob Uecker's housekeeper in the 1985 TV series. I have no idea who it was named for, but that didn't matter because it was a sweet castle in the middle of a sweet park. We both enjoyed this because we had always dreamed of being in a castle. All girls dream of being a princess, and  I always wanted to ride a tiger and transform by the power of Greyskull. None of those happened, but Jenny did find a Jenny-sized door.

I did however, rule over all of the occupants (although they city of New York refused to recognize my rule) of Central Park by occupying the King's throne in Belvedere Castle. I sat high above all and dictated all of my rules and regulations, but sadly no one listened to me. No one cared that I self-proclaimed my reign over them because they were too busy looking at things to listen to some tourist from Milwaukee.
