New York City Spring Break - Day 3
The town of Red Bank is rather small, and only has a population of around 12,000. If not for Kevin Smith, I would have never known about nor visited this Jersey location. The New Jersey department of Tourism should give Kevin Smith dollars for all of the advertising and revenue that he brings to this state. From what I heard, many many people come to these areas of Jersey looking for the filming locations of their favorite movies, and also to visit the places either featured or talked about it Smith's various films. For a moment, I proved something in Red Bank to be incorrect. They have a street called Reckless Place, but at the moment that this picture was taken, 2 Recks were occupying said place, making it more of a Reck-filled place than a Reck-less place. Ha ha ha. Yeah I know that I'm terrible...
I wanted so very badly to purchase a pack of cigarettes from the Clerk working at the Quick Stop, but I couldn't see spending $5 on something that I wouldn't use. I do not nor have I ever smoked, so I didn't see any justifiable reason to start not at age 25. Besides, I didn't want to pester this nice man with the classic line from the movie, as I'm sure that he gets that a whole lot from Clerks fans.
I waited patiently to receive my change. I really wished that there was a sign that said if you plan to steal, let us know. Jenny paid for her goods, and we chatted with the Clerk on duty. He said that people come from all over the world (he was recently talking with some people from Australia) to visit this Quick Stop, and some people even spend hours in here. He understands, and as long as people don't cause a disturbance by following orders, they are allowed to hang out inside the store. He doesn't like it when guidance counselors or milk maids mess with his dairy products though.
I wanted to ask him so many things, but I didn't want to take up any more of his time. He did let me know that Kevin Smith was recently there and filmed for a few days because some scenes of his new movie Clerks II take place at the Quick Stop. If I ever move to Jersey, I would do whatever it takes to get a job there so that I could rant about independent contractors working on the uncompleted Death Star, bitch about how much I hated all of the customers at the Quick Stop and the video store (RST, where Randal works is right next door), whine that I'm not even supposed to be here today, and I'd even close the store to play hockey on the roof. You see, I would run the place just like Dante Hicks, and it would be the greatest job in the entire world. Just watch Clerks so you can figure out how awesome it would be.
We've been back in Wisconsin after spring break for over 6 months now, and Jenny still has yet to watch Clerks. She still doesn't understand how cool it was just to be able to hang out in this fantasy location. Someday we'll sit down and watch the View Askew series and she'll look back on this moment as one of the greatest in her life, just like I do right now.
