New York City Spring Break - Day 2
After the unfortunate events of September 11, the country became more patriotic than it ever had been. Pictures such as this became widely seen in our local newspapers and on TV. 5 years later, I carry on the tradition by framing the American flag proudly waving in front of the city that received the brunt of the damage done on that fateful day.
We had spent as much time as we possibly could on Liberty Island, and we were ready to move on. We couldn't move on until we checked in with this kid in this sweet arctic snow hat complete with ear flaps. I asked him what his purpose was on this island, playing the part of the customs agent, but he silently clung to his Dad's arm and was taken away. I never even got his name. That kid looked like he was pretty hyped, and once he turns 21 I'm going to look him up so that I can party with him.
Let'sbne quite honest here. At $11.50 a person, this place has to rake in some serious dough. You'd think that they could update their signs so that the Twin Towers no longer play a prominent role in the New York City skyline. But I guess in order to do that, some fat politician would have to take a pay cut and would have to settle for less.
As always, Lady Liberty keeps her watch over the harbor, New York City, and the entire country as she does her civic duty. Heh heh, duty. For some reason, I have the ability to find humor in everything, even within the face of something as sacred as the representation of our country's most sacred icon.
This would be the last time that we would see Lady Liberty on this trip to New York City. Lady celebrated it by smiling and holding on to her bottle of Sprite. When you are sponsored by Coca-Cola, there is no better tribute to the greatest landmark in our country.
It was only 4:30 pm, and already we had had several days worth of fun. That old guy behind us was certainly feeling it as well, for he couldn't keep his eyes open because he was so tired. I couldn't have picked a more perfect person that Jenny to spend this trip with.
A the time that I took this picture, I did not know that I would be walking across the Brooklyn Bridge in 2 days time. I just took the picture because I thought that it looked cool and also because tourists are required to take pictures of interesting things. I read that once in the tourist handbook on visiting places you've never been to yet.
