South Carolina 2012 with Matt - Day 5

This trip was structured around Matt being in Charleston and Columbia on business so I decided to fly out of Charlotte, NC because it was a hell of a lot cheaper. Since he gets Mondays and Fridays off for travel purposes while he is on the road he was able to drive me there. James and Melissa both headed off to work early this morning but I did get to say goodbye. Matt and I hung out at the house for a little bit with Baya and Tucker because we didn't have anything better to do. And those goofy dogs didn't have much to do either.

I got Korben Dallas on October 13 so this was the first time that I have been away from him. I definitely missed him while I was out on the road but I wonder if he felt the same. My Mom came over every day to feed him and play with him so he got those needs fulfilled. Had we been together long enough for him to know that we are supposed to be best buds? Does he know that I'm the one who will be here almost every day for love and moral support? He must know something because he bit me that night. Nothing says "I love you" like a nice firm tooth in the arm. Or at least that's what I think love is. Maybe that's why I used to bite the girl next door as a kid...

Unless I become totally whipped by my wife I will never have a dog. Since I don't ever plan on having a wife I don't plan on ever having a dog. I'm just not a dog person. I don't mind hanging out with Gracie (my Mom's dog) or P Baby, Sweet Lou and Scrappy (my Dad's dogs) but I haven't been around Baya and Tucker enough to get used to them. It took me years to warm up to the other ones so check back with me in a few. These dogs are nuts though and they chew up the window frame when left alone all day so we had to give them a 2treat inside these rubber toys to keep them busy. After that we left them alone to screw around and further destroy the house.

Everything went perfectly despite me throwing this trip together at the last minute. Matt dropped me off at the airport in Charlotte and I was on my way back home. I had a good time down here but a Yankee like me has no place in the South.

I refer to Melissa as Officer Werner even though she legally changed her last name to Reck when she married my Brother. I just can't help it and when she told me to stop I kept doing it. I'm that obnoxious. She went to work but left her squad car at home. I wanted to go joy riding but figured it wouldn't be the best idea to steal my Sister-In-Law's patrol car. I'm sure that wouldn't end well. If I did that I might as well say goodbye to this home for good as I wouldn't be invited back. But I didn't, so I'll be back here again someday.

I mentioned to Matt that I've never eaten at a Waffle House or a Chick-fil-A so we decided to right one of those wrongs. I got a chicken sandwich and some waffle fries and it was damn good. Definitely worth it. I plan on eating here again someday.

I'm guessing that I took this picture when I was sitting in the ass end of the plane. I often do that. I was shrouded in shadow but I kind of wish people could have seen me because the airplane seat belt fit for once without an extender. Look at me! I fit!

I vowed to to never go back to Cincinnati. I've been there a couple of times to see the Brewers play the Reds and the last time I was there was one of the worst weekends of my life. But this time I was just passing through. Airports don't count.

I kept calling this place Cinci-whatsky and pointing with my thumb like Barnaby Barnicle does in the Keanu Reeves/Drew Barrymore Babes in Toyland. I kept on saying it as I drank my airport beer, which drew stares from the nearby traveling folk.

I got back home to Milwaukee around 9pm. Despite being December 3rd it was 63 degrees out. I've been to a decent amount of places in this world but there's no place like Milwaukee. I'm glad to call this place my home.

This was my 4th time going down to South Carolina to visit James and Melissa. Wow. Can't believe that they have been down there that long. Every time I go down there I have a new adventure and I wonder what will happen the next time I head South. It doesn't sound like they are heading back North to Wisconsin any time soon, so as long as they live there I will keep going back.
