South Carolina 2012 with Matt - Day 4

I've been to Schooner's more times than I care to admit and I'm sure that I will go back there several more times. I'm not the biggest fan of the joint but I get it. It's a dive bar but it is their dive bar. But I kind of like going there on Sundays because James and Melissa have turned it into a Packers bar. There are a couple of other people who are from Wisconsin but they also have converted some of their friends into Packers fans. Since a large group of Packers fans (as you can see below) gather for the game it kind of makes me feel like I'm back home. Football is a game best watched with others and I had a good crew to watch it with at Schooner's on this day.

We were out until bar close Friday and Saturday night so it was a pretty lazy Sunday morning. We were still up earlyish anyway because we wanted to grab some breakfast before the Green Bay Packers played the Minnesota Vikings at 1pm Eastern time. We went to Cletus' Roadside Grille and I got an omelet that was bigger than my head and filled with just about as much nonsense. Apparently this Cletus fella was a friend of a friend and they frequent his restaurant. And why not. He was a nice person, the food was unbelievable delicious and he even gave me a can coozy to take home. This was a damn good way to start off the day. I love me a good ol' Southern breakfast.

We hung out at Schooner's for a while after the game and Matt and I were asking to leave. I got nothing against hanging out at a bar but as you can see by the pictures during this trip we have spent a good amount of time at the bars. Tomorrow was Monday which meant some people had to go back to work (James and Melissa) and I had to go back home. Matt was sticking around here as he would be working in Columbia this week. We were trying to figure out what to do and I suggested we just hang out at home and have a fire.

For my money there is no better way to spend a night than with some good friends/family, a couple of beverages and a fire. I don't think I will ever understand why I love fire so much and I've spent countless hours trying to explain why. I just do. Fire is my thing. James dug a fire pit in the yard and had plenty of wood to burn thanks to the grove of trees in his backyard. We sat outside for a few hours and just talked. These are the moments that I miss the most with James living so far away. We never get to sit down and just talk because when he comes home or when I go there we try to cram so much into the short amount of time. Tonight was exactly what I needed on this trip. Life is tough and sometimes I just need my big brother to remind me that he is always here for me.

The Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 23-14 and everyone seemed to be in a generally good mood. And why not? It was a Sunday Funday at Schooner's and there was no place I'd rather be. OK, so there were other places I'd rather be but I was a having a good time with my family. The weather was nice and I was hanging outside and someone brought their tiny dog to the bar. Gotta love Schooner's.
