Minnesota with Bates Family 2011 - Day 2

Kristin was much better with Mason than I was. Perhaps it was woman's intuition or the fact that she's the Godmother. I'm not sure. All that I know is that he stopped crying when she held him in her arms. We should all be so lucky. Maybe someday I'll get there.

I was hanging out in the park talking on the phone and I couldn't help thinking about the movie Black Sheep. Chris Farley swings from a rope into a pond while yelling out "HELLO WASHINGTON!!" and the first time I saw it with Timmy I laughed for a solid 3 minutes.

Wilson is Katie's Aunt's cat and he is a beast. Just look at him. I bet he eats whole chickens two at a time. I've hung out with this cat on several occasions and it was good to see that the old bastard was still alive and ticking. Where would the world be without Wilson anyway?

It was time to head back to the hotel and Mason and Reese were buckled in tight. Safety first! Responsibility is a crazy thing. I wouldn't know. I've never had to demonstrate the ability to have any of it. That's what makes Mike + Katie such good parents.

I'll admit it, I'm not a huge fan of kids. I attribute that to the fact that I've never had any, or at least any that I know about. I've heard that your perspective changes when you actually do have your own spawn. Whan Mike asked me to be Godfather to Mason I was honored, but I'm just not into holding babies. When he gets older I'll show him a bunch of cool stuff for sure but for right now I was trying to show him how to do "Beast Mode." Since he lives in Minnesota I supposed I will take it upon myself to make sure he stays true to his Wisconsin roots.

It's not my fault for not liking babies. I blame it on the fact that they cry every time that I hold them. The agony! The fear! The uncomfortable situation that they are placed in! It's not fun for me and it certainly isn't fun for them. That is one of the reasons why grandmas are around. Babies love grandmas and grandmas most definitely like babies. Once could even argue that they like them ever more than their parents do. Once Mason started leaking from the eyes I was fortunate to have Bernie around and she made it all better.

We all went over to Katie's Aunt's house for some dinner and a good old fashioned get together. It's a good thing that it was summer because her house was pretty small and would not be able to fit all of us. We took turns going inside and outside the house and there was a certain buzz of excitement in the air because the Bates/Williams family only gets together a few times a year. I was privileged to be part of it, and I look forward to many more times.
