Brewers Games in Kansas City |
We bought our tickets from some dude in the parking lot. He was practically giving them away. He sold us 6 tickets, but 4 of them were on the 3rd base side and 2 of them were on the 1st base side. All of them were great seats (although the 3rd base ones were about 7 rows off of the field) but it would mean that we had to split up. Balkman and Lorge took the 1st base seats (you can see them in the picture on the left right in front of the guy with the Chinese-style wicker hat) and Casey, Amy and I sat on the 3rd base side. It did kind of suck to be split up, but I definitely stopped crying once the game started and I watched the game from our freaking sweet field level seats. |
When Carlos Lee was still with the Brewers he was the #4 (clean-up) hitter in the lineup. He rarely ever struck out and he was a homerun and RBI machine, which took the pressure off of rookie first baseman Prince Fielder to be the Brewers' workhorse. I could tell that Prince learned a lot from Carlos in the short time that they spent together, and he has since become a player that people like me look up to. |
Chris Barnwell is one of those players that would have never seen major league action if not for injuries to other players. He appeared in 13 games and hit a stunning 2 for 30 for a .067 batting average. Seeing him play for the Brewers made me long for the day when JJ Hardy would be healthy again. Plus he was only 5'10", which meant that he didn't possess a strike zone because he was a tiny human. |
The game had come to a close and the Brewers had lost to the Royals by a score of 6-5. The game had started out well, and the Brewers got off to a 5-1 lead in the 4th inning by some crafty and timely hits by the top of the order. But it all was in vain, as Doug Davis gave up multiple walks and the Brewers defense committed several errors in the bottom of the 4th to allow the Royals to score 5 runs that would eventually result in enough to win the game. |
Casey, Lorge and Balkman all played for Axel's baseball team and had to be home in time for their game on Sunday. This meant that we couldn't stay for the final Brewers/Royals game, but that was fine with me after I had watched game 3 on TV later that day. The Brewers lost 6-0 in another road game and by a replacement starter for the injured Ben Sheets and Tomo Ohka. |
We got back into town about 7:00 am and boy was I worn out. This was a pretty crazy and fun weekend, but I couldn't help feeling depressed because the Brewers once again lost an important road series that they easily could have won. The road woes continued throughout the rest of the season, but that wouldn't stop me from going on more road trips in the 2006 season. |
The next good sign that the game was about to begin happened when the players took the field to participate in pregame warm-ups. Rickie Weeks (left picture) and Bill Hall (right picture) form the middle 1/2 of the Brewers infield, so naturally they would warm-up together. I got all giddy as a little schoolgirl on the first day of class when I got to see my idol's up close, and I had to try oh so hard to contain my glee. |
