It's times like this when I'm grateful that Milwaukee replaced County Stadium with Miller Park. The biggest difference you ask? Well, for those of you who stumbled upon this site and have no idea what I am talking about, Miller Park has a retractable roof; County Stadium was open air. The insures that no games are called due to inclement weather. Today's game was the first one in over 4 years (Miller Park opened in 2002) that I have had to sit through a rain delay. Since I wasn't used to waiting, I didn't know what to do. It was then that we busted out the beer pong table and proceeded to participate in some highly competitive tailgating.

You are now well aware that there were only 5 of us, and just like the other night, it made for some pretty interesting match-ups. Casey and Amy had a little more trouble than Balkman and I, but they could have been victim to some follies that for whatever reason passed us by.

Balkman and I were playing a pretty mean game. This moment captures the finale when I hit the set-up shot to initiate a table breaker. If my mind can accurately recall trivial facts like this, I'd hope that it would be correct in saying that Balkman missed the kill shot right here, but we eventually ended up winning the game.

It wasn't raining very hard, but you can imagine how much these conditions would throw off your shot. It takes a true veteran experienced player to recognize and adjust to these conditions. All of us have spent a considerable amount of time on the pong table, so we had no trouble adjusting and hitting cups.

The video board displayed the two teams that would be occupying the field of battle today, whenever that would be. The game was already delayed about 1 half hour at this point, and it was anyone's guess as to when they would be starting the game.

The nice thing about having fountains is that they still operate at 100% capacity in the rain. Everything else was shut down on the field, but those fountains showed a sign of hope as they shot into the air and signaled adversity prevailing through tough and unforeseen circumstances. We should sit back, take notes, and learn a mighty fine lesson from these steadfast fountains.

We had waited nearly 40 minutes until the grounds crew took the field to a roaring applause from the loyal people who waited for the rain to clear. By this time it wasn't raining anymore and people were actually in their seats as opposed to the covered concourse. The removal of the tarp was the sign that times were a changing around these parts. Sooner rather than later, baseball would resume in Kansas City.

Home

Most everyone in attendance was huddled underneath the roof of the concourse, but I was antsy and decided to find out where our seats were. While down there, I started hooting and hollering and causing a stir, and I caught the attention of the cameramen and Bill Schroeder and Daron Sutton. My escapades were broadcast during the game when they talked about the rain delay. They showed me sitting in my seat, then played back the clip from before the game. I gladly showed off both of my tattoos, and Bill and Daron had plenty of lively comments about me.  I have it on tape if you ever want to see it. It is definitely one of the coolest moments of my life caught on film.
