Afterglow 2010 - Day 8 Saturday

One man that knows all about that is Brian. Not only did he win "Spirit of the Week" but I also bet he drank an entire bottle of Jim Beam by himself. So he has every right to sit around on a chair and not do a damn thing. Problems? Win it and then you can be just like Brian.

Loading the car back up Saturday morning is the worst part of Afterglow. Not am I hungover from a week-long bender, but I am also hungover from a week of activities. And on top of that we need to leave paradise for the next 51 days. What a pisser of a day.

One thing that I always noticed was that Afterglow Lake always looks her best on the last day. Maybe it's that she can finally breath a sigh of relief after we have disturb her waters all week. Maybe it's because Brian won't be able to pee in her waters again until next year. Or maybe she's quietly whimpering because we're her favorite week. Show me a week that has people willing to sign a pact to go swimming every day or else risk losing $5 and getting an atomic wedgie and I'll show you a liar. Whatever it was, she was whispering goodbye. And then we cried.

Few people understand how difficult it is to leave here after spending the entire week in paradise. All of my family gets it, and Stacy is one of the ones who really gets it. As pookon.com historian, she has to soak up the week for 2 as she helps me to later remember it.

Timmy hated to pose for pictures because real life isn't posed. So standing still and posing is not real. But I taught him that there is exception to every rule, and since then we did the "Be Excellent to Each Other" pose that Bill & Ted did. And then it became our thing.

Before we leave we usually take family pictures, and I like it because it gives me a good way to easily show you how we've grown through the years. Uncle Greg and family (Aunt Sandy, Brain and Stacy) were first up in the annual display of family love. And so it goes...

Uncle Rick and family (Aunt Maria, Susie and Tommy) were next in line as the flash bulbs made their eyes sparkle. The Moms were in full effect that day as they attempted to capture the memories. These darn kids grew up so fast, and pookon.com has the photos to prove it.

Afterglow is stock full of traditions, and one of them is Mom's picture with her brothers, or at least the ones who come up to Afterglow. That's not a shot a Uncle Mike, but he prefers to go to Las Vegas. Ballers like me can afford to do both in a year.

For our family picture this year we were down to only 3. James and Melissa weren't able to make it this year because of the wedding in May and Jenny had run off. Something set her off and Mom was left to hang with her two youngest boys. That's how it is sometimes.

I'm not sure if we are getting smaller in numbers or smaller in size, but it seems like there are less of us very year. I know the latter isn't true because we all have the Kurutz Kurse. But after future review we are down 4 cousins (James, Jenny, Stefani and Joey) and Melissa so that made sense. But we also added Kevin as an official cousin after he impressed Uncle Rick by playing at the campfire. So I just don't know.
