Afterglow 2010 - Day 6 Thursday

I think that this bags matchup of Timmy and Gary versus Stacy and Tommy was an official game of the tournament, but I can't be certain. And at this point does it really matter? It's just a bunch of kids having fun and no one cared if they won or lost. There are more important things than wins or losses, and hanging out with family and friends is one of them. And that is why Afterglow is amazing because we get to do that.

I don't know why watching Afterglow sporting events is so fun, but it must be because you can do it with a mug of booze or a can of beer in your hand. And you always have good company to hang out with.

You see a bunch of mid 20 year olds sitting around being lazy, but I see a group of kids that are raging it. It's all a matter of perspective I guess. To each their own, but I know 6 people who will agree with me.

Gary and Jenny played against some non family members, and since they are not family, I don't really know or care who they are. No offense really, I just love my family so much that I just focus on them all of the time. My cheering must have helped them out because they advanced to the next round. Or maybe it was the power of the sombreros on their heads. You know that they have been known to bring about miracles.

Horseshoes is one of those games that has the stigma of being a game for older people, much like croquet and shuffleboard. But not at Afterglow! Up here the kids dominate horseshoes which was evident in this match when all of the people involved were under the age of 26. In fact, one of them (Stacy, the baby of the group) isn't even 21 yet! I suppose that means that we are taking this game back to the younger generation. This was a well fought game by both teams, but the younger of the youths ended up triumphing as Tommy and Stacy moved on to the championship game.

The best thing about competitive events up here is that no matter who wins, we all have fun. That can't be said about sports in general because there is often a sore loser. But not up here because we are here to have fun first and everything else is secondary.

I don't know who Brian is showing off to. We're all family at Afterglow, and only family visit this site. A long time ago I gave up trying to understand Brian. Susie and Aunt Maria would say the same thing, and they too have known him for his whole life.

The epic finale of the bags tournament was between Mark Chapman and his buddy and Brian and Kevin. I can't imagine a more one-sided game, but time has taught me to never count out these LP's.

The booze mug is a staple at Afterglow and a tradition started by the greats Uncle Rick and Uncle Greg. We owe most of our Afterglow traditions to them (like raging on KK) and we are proud to keep the Revolution going full steam. Brian was evidence of that this day.

Gail does a nice job getting everyone prepared for the horseshoe championship game by setting out snacks. She learned long ago that people will gather where the food is. Clever girl. So there is always a good crowd on hand to see a Kurutz/Reck team grab victory.

A medium sized crowd always gathers for the horseshoe finals. It's partly because one of the family teams is almost always in it (by odds alone) and the fact that we usually don't have anything better to do.
