Afterglow 2010 - Day 6 Thursday |
The blind canoe race is an event that I love to watch but would never participate in. I'm sure that I did it once or twice in my youth but being blindfolded and exercising is not my cup of tea. Why would someone enjoy the combination? I don't even like those things when they are by themselves. However I don't mind the blindfold if I'm going on a blind date. Get it pal? A blind date! The family was well represented with Timmy, Stacy and Tommy on one team and Kevin, Brian and Gary on another. We had pretty good odds bringing the blue ribbon home. |
When people wear blindfolds they hide their identity and are in disguise. So you can't tell who they are, which makes it difficult to cheer on your family from the beach. Luckily my family members always wear sombreros so I can always pick them out of a crowd. I think there was like 4 teams or something, which gave us like a 50% chance of the coveted top prize - a worthless blue ribbon that we already have at home |
Even though I'm sure all of the cousins have more than enough of those Afterglow Lake Resort blue ribbons at home, they raced anyway. So why do they race? Well it's not for taste. Only the Klement's Racing Sausages do that. No these kids race for pride and for the continuation of the Revolution. But how can we continue the Revolution if we're still starting it you ask? Some questions are better left not asked. And sometimes a race course is better not seen by the participants, which makes for a lot of entertaining follies for the spectators on the beach to watch. |
Gail had them run several races for some reason that only she knew of. So it's hard for someone like me to remember which team won in the end. I might have to do some research by looking through the Afterglow Lake Resort History Book of Records and Awards, but such a book doesn't exist. It should though, because there are plenty of people out there who would like to know that information. If Pete and Gail offer the residents of Cabin #2 free lifetime stay at Afterglow, I'd compile such a book for them. Gail if you're reading this, you know how to contact me. |
A team consisting of Brian and Kevin will not always win the Blind Canoe Race, but one thing for certain is that they will tip their canoe. Even though people put a lot of stock in Punxsutawney Phil, you can always successfully predict that the first day of Spring will be March 21st. It happens every year and we sit and wait for that day to come. And even though Kevin and Brian are used to tipping, I swam out to help them bring their canoe to shore. Family should always be there for each other in their time of need, and today would be no exception to that rule. |
You would think that Gary and Brian would have the advantage over Tommy and Timmy because they have more physical strength. While that is true, their team failed because of their guide. Honestly, who do you feel better guiding you - Kevin or Stacy? Need I say more? |
Stacy is clinging on for life to the sides of the canoe, but I don't know why she is so afraid. I'd feel more confident putting my life in the hands of Timmy and Tommy versus Brian and Gary. Of course that's not saying much, but Stacy should have nothing to fear. |
