Afterglow 2010 - Day 5 Wednesday

I don't remember going to the campfire Wednesday night. But I wouldn't be surprised if we did considering that I don't remember much of what we did that entire day. But this picture of Jenny and Gary was taken at night down by the beach. Ah ah! It's a clue!

But I do remember falling back to Craig's Kourt when the day was coming to and end. We all grabbed an armful of wood and the necessary materials to start our fire. Since we built it on rocks, we didn't have to worry about burning down the woods. Safety first.

Tim and I were both present (at least physically) and we both have gone through extensive fire management training. We weren't worried about it getting out of hand, but should that happen the spare boats in the graveyard all had standing water in them from last night's storm. We could sit back and enjoy, since we had taken the proper precautions.

Brian once said that he loves staring at fire and sometimes he falls into a trance looking at the flickering flames. But that would not be the case tonight because he passed out on the rockpile instead of staying awake watching the fire. Who passes out on a rock pile? C'mon Brian, be a man! Don't be all partied out. Who does that?

Turns out that passing out on the rockpile was the trendy thing to do and all of the cool kids were doing it. I don't blame Kevin and Gary for succumbing to the promises that sleep offers. After all they did consume more than their fair share of alcohol today, much like Timmy, Jenny, Brian and I did. I was still awake (thanks to the nap that was so rudely interrupted by Jenny's Bride Wars) but Timmy had already left Craig's Kourt for the comfort that his closet bed could only offer. I can't imagine sleeping in the closet is comfortable, but then again neither are rocks.

We were totally making fun of everyone who passed out on the rockpile up on Craig's Kourt and then Jenny became the butt of her own joke when she too passed out. Everyone was either passed out or went back to the cabins, so raging on CK wasn't as good as KK.

Even though it looks like I too am passed out on the rockpile, I am only faking it for this picture. I had long since gotten over my drunkenness and I wanted to know what it felt like to lay on a pile of rocks. And you know what? It felt like laying on a pile of rocks.

In the wee hours of the night only Susie, Tommy and I were left on Craig's Kourt. I almost forgot that they were there because I was too busy taking pictures of the kids passed out on the rocks. But one by one they woke up and stumbled back to their respective cabins. And just like that the best day at Afterglow came to a close with a whimper rather than a big bang. I put out the fire with rainwater collected from the dead boats and the smoke billowed high into the night. Then I buried the evidence so Pete will never know we had a fire up here. Unless he checks this site. In that case we're screwed.
