Afterglow 2010 - Day 5 Wednesday

We take a lot of pride in our horseshoe play ay Afterglow, and year after year the same people team up vying for the ultimate blue ribbon of them all -  the Horseshoe Championship. My Mom and I are two time champions (although one was by default) and I believe that Dale and Carol have at least one championship to their name. Timmy and his normal partner Susie usually fail to make it out of the first round, but how would he fair with the newly acquired (and last minute replacement) Jenna? I'm guessing another first round exit after a match up against this competition.

I can't speak for Jenna because I don't know much about her, and finding out that information is borderline illegal. But I'm assuming that she is some kind of an athlete. She certainly has the body for it. Remind me to delete that last line before I post this. But I do know that Timmy is a musician and has chosen to focus on the arts instead of contests of athletic prowess. But never underestimate a kid with his kind of talent.

I'm pretty sure that Gary likes hanging out with us, but his decision is probably easier than Kevin's is. In his life I bet he has hung out with his parents more than us, but for Kevin the scale is tipping in our direction. Hopefully soon we can sway Gary, but we're not there yet.

At Afterglow is difficult for the fans to decide who to cheer for when family members play against each other. Jenny and Brian are obviously drawn to cheering out "Yeah Timmy!" but for Kevin it's not that easy. Does he cheer for his "cousin" or his real parents?

New to the field of competitive events at Afterglow in 2010 was the bags tournament. Set up in the same bracket style as horseshoes, Jenny and I teamed up under the name Bebop and Rocksteady, who were Shredder's mutant henchman in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. I usually excel at games that allow you to play with a beer in hand, and today was no different. I was ready to carry our team to victory.

Jenny is usually really good at bean bags, hackey sack and making hemp necklaces. You know, hippie activities. Which is why it surprised me that Jenny was so terrible today in the bags game against Mark and his buddy and I had to carry the team. Everyone is allowed to have an off game every now and then, but when it is a single elimination tournament, one off game means that you are knocked out of the tourney.

After I scored something like 13 of our 15 points, I challenged Jenny to a 1 on 1 game of bags to give her a chance to prove her might. And of course she smoked me in that game and proved to me that she had it all along, it just disappeared for a game. But I should have figured that with a team name like Bebop and Rocksteady we would lose easily, as those two clowns always suffered defeat at the hands of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo. But that didn't stop us from having an awesome team name.
