Afterglow 2010 - Day 3 Monday |
Saturday is a short day (because most people don't get in until mid-afternoon) and Sunday is supposed to be family day, so the first time that everyone formally catches up after a year absence is at the Pot Luck Dinner. Gail has a representative from every cabin stand up and introduce themselves and their cabin mates. After we hear how many decades uncle Greg has been bringing his family up here, Gail creates a game to see who can line up first for dinner. It's usually something simple like raise your hand if you graduated from school this year or raise your hand if you had a birthday this month. We just raised our hands after every question she asked, which confused the hell out of her. |
But at the same time we were all hopped up on booze and whenever someone pointed a camera in our direction, we made silly faces. We didn't have a choice. After all, we were wearing sombreros. |
When we weren't goofing around and getting caught in a lie, we were listening intently on what the other people had to say. Deep down inside we really do care about the other people who come up here. |
Kevin considers himself a member of the Kurutz/Reck family, and the entire family accepts him as one of their own. I consider myself one of the McKissick boys but until Carol accepts me, I will just be on the outside looking in. Except at Afterglow. Up here she doesn't rule; I do. |
I take something like 300 pictures during the week of Afterglow, so it's usually hard to pick out my favorite one for the week. No offense to the other 299, but this one may be it. Kevin and I already make it funny, but Timmy takes it up a notch to hilarious. That's Classic. |
Kevin and Brian are family, but they're a different kind of family than you probably imagined. See they love each other without being intimate, which is why we call them life partners. They still like girls (well maybe Kevin doesn't) but they really like each other. |
Jenny Reck is the best sister in the world. Not only is she my best friend but she is also willing to do goofy things like wear a sombrero to the pot luck dinner. The only person who could possibly compete in a best sister competition is my cousin Stacy. It might end in a tie. |
We didn't sit at one of the tables, choosing instead to sit on the fire pit benches to consume our food. It didn't really matter where we sat because growing boys like Kevin and I just shovel down the food. |
I don't know how we all got to the front of the line, but seeing that we have 12 people here we had good odds on having someone who recently graduated or had a birthday. But we would get 1st choice. |
