Green Bay Spring Break (page 8)
Since we decided to forgo staying overnight in Eagle River, we had the entire Saturday to work on my convertible and get the top working again. We spent the morning sleeping, then eating, then we worked on the car. We took the inside apart, in order to get to the switch that operates the top, but we found out that the switch wasn't the problem. Then my Dad decided to crawl into the back of the car and take a look at the motor that controls the top's movement. To check that, we needed to buy some tools and wrenches at Fleet Farm. So that's what we did. My Dad loves that store because he says you can find anything that you need there, and it was true. I quizzed the store associates to the best of my ability, and they responded with a knowledgeable answer every single time. The Bible was right; Fleet Farm is amazing.
In order to get at the hydraulic motor, my Dad needed to squeeze inside of the trunk, which I had cleaned out so that he would have that opportunity. We toiled and labored over it for countless hours, finally making the conclusion that the top would never work as originally intended. We then went along with the only viable solution to get the top working - cut the hydraulic lines and operate the top manually. It was messy at first (with fluid spilling everywhere) but it was worth it. Thanks to my Dad, I now have a working convertible. Now that you know that, I'm sure all you lovely people won't mind riding along with me this summer as I drive around town.
