Green Bay Spring Break (page 3)
Not much happened on the 2 1/2 hour trip up to Eagle River; likewise I do not have any pictures that document the journey. When we finally got there, we stopped at the McDonald's for a bite to eat. Jesus (and God) if you are reading this, forgive me for eating a double cheeseburger on a Friday in Lent, the fish sandwich was more than $0.99, which was all that I could afford. Ok, so that was a lie, and I just committed a sin, but I really wanted a double cheeseburger. But God created the platypus, so we all know that he has a sense of humor (see Dogma [by Kevin Smith] because I can't take the credit for that joke) so I know that he forgave me when he saw me wearing a bib. Plus that bib had Ronald McDonald and the gang (remember Grimace? Wasn't he just the coolest guy in Ronald's McGang? I think that he was. Especially since he was the cage that you could shake around in the old school McDonald's Playland.) We left McDonald's and headed down Highway 17 to a little town called Phelps; home of our Afterglow.
This is the road. It is also know as the open road, or Highway 17, or simply the way. The last statement refers to the way to Afterglow, which we travel to every summer. I just thought that the snow and the trees made it look different and kind of cool.
This is an advertisement for the Twin Lakes Bible Church. I took the picture because not only is it funny, but it is a little bit of an inside joke between Tim and I. I'd explain it to you, but you wouldn't laugh, because you just had to be there.
This is the shed where the Smokey Special was parked outside of in the Summer of 2003. (click the link to see a picture of the Smokey Special from July of 2003.) It looks like they put it away fro the Winter, kind of like hibernation. That's too bad really, cause it is one heck of a bus.
This is the sign that welcomes visitors to Afterglow Lake Resort. Notice in the picture that I'm standing knee-deep in the snow that had accumulated from the Wintry weather that visits these parts during certain months of the year. This is crazy man, real crazy.
We went to see if Pete or Gail were in, but they weren't, so we just invited ourselves down to the beach. After all, we were paying customers (well... kind of.) The entire lake was frozen over, and had it not been for the mild month of March, I would've gone so far as to walk across the lake. I was not going to test the ice, because everyone has seen those Fox specials where people fall through ice and rescue workers need to save them. I didn't feel like being a victim, so I stayed to the dock, which is where this second picture is taken from. In case you could not tell, I'm looking back onto the beach, and yes, that is the raft docked on the sand.
