Afterglow 2008 - Day 2 Sunday |
There are a few things that you can always count on in life - the sun will rise and set, the Cubs will choke in the playoffs, and Brian and Kevin will always go swimming with me. Pact or no pact, we are in the water each and every day no matter what the weather tries to throw at us. We only get 7 days up here, so we need to take full advantage of the chance to immerse ourselves in lake Afterglow. |
Faith was playing in the sand making castles and catching frogs. I remember when I used to be amused by stuff like that. I'd give anything to feel the pure joy that kids do when playing with bubbles or catching frogs. That innocence is just lost as you grow old. |
Mom had settled in with a good book on the dock when Jimmy and his son interrupted her. Even though she lost her place and her total rapture in the book, she was happy to sit, chat and catch up with events from the past year. We only see these people once a year up at Afterglow, and it's worth setting down a good book to catch up with old friends and hear about their stories from the year. |
To help Mom out around the cabin, we each picked a day to cook Tim chose tonight, and made some delicious chicken and corn on the cob on the grill. We then sat outside on the picnic table and ate dinner as a family. Can you really ask for anything greater than that? Good food, good company, and a beautiful setting for dinner. It really doesn't get any better than this folks. It's perfect. |
Tim had a show last night with the Micah Olsan Band (he's the drummer), so he was a day late coming up to Afterglow. He woke up early in the morning and hurried up here, and I had a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer waiting for him. When he finally arrived, my Afterglow vacation could begin. Sure, I had an awesome time last night (and everyone at Afterglow also knew I had an awesome time last night) but it just isn't the same without Timmy. I immediately made him S the B so that he knew what he was missing last night, and he suddenly realized that coming up here a day late wasn't so bad because he missed out on the box wine social that we had last night, which really was a god thing since I was in bed a little longer than normal this morning. I remember in a good old fashioned hung-over mood, I covered up the CL in Timmy's shirt so that it read "Teachers have ass", and it was the funniest damn thing in the world at that moment. And with a PBR, BW and Timmy, my day begun. |
I admire Kevin for never giving up on my dream. I had always intended to learn how to play the guitar so that I could woo the ladies and get them to fall in love with me, but I turned to drinking and beer pong and kind of lost that angle. So that's probably why I'm not an ace with the female sex. So Kevin, if you're reading this, keep it up and be twice as good for the both of us. The wrong kid died! |
Sunday is typically a very lazy day, both at home and at Afterglow. I know that I just lay around and watch sports and drink on Sunday at home, so why should Afterglow be any different? Except up here we have a beach and and a lake, so we take full advantage of that. |
People often accuse me of taking too many pictures, but when you have a digital camera and a boatload of memory, there is no such thing as too many. Why so I bring this up? Because the last picture I have from Day 2 is of Timmy grilling dinner. I don't have any more pictures to show what we did the rest of the day. It has been nearly 6 months (and way too many beers) since then, so I have no idea what took place. My guess is the same as always - we had some drinks, hung out, then passed out or voluntarily went to sleep. That's always my excuse for Afterglow, because 60% of the time, it's true every time. Even though that really doesn't make sense. I'm sure Kevin will text message me + tell me what happened the night of Day 2 (ah, to be young) but I'm going to stick to my guns and admit that I don't remember. On to Day 3! |
