Afterglow 2008 - Day 8 Saturday

Kevin is right there with me at the beginning of the week, during the week, and now at the end. And come to think about it, I bet he is on this website right now reading this. See, without Kevin there would be no Afterglow and no Pookon.com. Ok, so I'll admit that's a little farfetched, but that's how much I appreciate his company.

Faith somehow got a hold of this cookie that was bigger than her head. Some Mom probably gave it to her because children are allowed to get all hopped up on junk food when they on on vacation. Seeing that it was a special occasion cookie, I doubted that she would be able to finish it. No child can consume a cookie that is bigger than their head, I thought. And I bet Faith a whole dollar that she couldn't do it. On that day, I remembered two things - kids love cookies, and kids will do just about anything for a dollar. Needless to say, Faith finished the whole cookie, and I kept true on my promise. Small price to pay to watch a little person tear into a sweet baked good. It is one of my fondest memories.

Before everyone piles in their cars to go back home, we each stand next to our respective families and smile for the myriad of cameras. We start off taking pictures with the immediate family and then start combining them all together until we're one giant family. Right now, Tommy, Susie, Aunt Maria and Uncle Rick took their family picture.

It's always sad to say goodbye to cabin #2. For one week out of the year, we all cram in here and remember how to coexist in tight quarters. It's not too challenging, because it's really hard to get angry up here in paradise. We do have our fair share of family squabbles, but cabin #2 is a generally a peaceful place.

Jenny is pulling a Faith in this picture by being the odd one out. This could have been a nice picture, but Jenny ruined it by giving the thumbs up. Wait, what the hell am I saying? Since when is a picture ruined by a thumbs up? I got old for a second there. Sorry about that. Rock on Jenny Reck, and keep that thumb up.

I'm pretty sure that I say this every year, but the lake always looks it's best on the last day. It might be putting on it's Saturday's best, knowing that this will be the last image in our minds of Afterglow Lake until next year. Or maybe we just appreciate the beauty more because we are going back home. Or it could just be that the lake looks totally different when we aren't all in it. Whatever the case may be, some of my best pictures of Afterglow Lake have always come on Day 8. And if the lake wants to get all dolled up to say goodbye, I'll gladly accept it.
