Afterglow 2008 - Day 6 Thursday

Even though we got steamrolled by Scott and Gail and were eliminated from the tournament, they ended up forfeiting their next game because Scott had to go to soccer practice or something. So instead of the common forfeiting practices of giving the victory to the team they were supposed to play, they allowed Mom and I to play against Mark and his fiancée. Call it Burt's rules or something. I didn't care either way because play or not play, I was going to keep on drinking box wine. But we played, and although it was a close game, we ended up winning. Near the end, I altered my shot and started shooting like a real person, but that didn't matter because Mom was shooting well, and ended up nailing a ringer to win it. So for the 2nd time in my Afterglow tenure, my Mom and I were crowned horseshoe champions.

Brian and Tommy got into a really wicked game of tetherball, and it's amazing that a ball on a string could amuse teenagers as much as it did. They're so in to their internet and video games that they forget how having fun really comes from the simplest of things and sometimes it's right there tethered to a poll and you didn't know it.

Thursday night means two things - Kurutz family dinner and video and awards night. We all get together at our cabin and have our own potluck dinner. While the Moms were cooking, I was hanging outside with Timmy and he was rocking out on the guitar. I wish that I was talented enough to join him, but I settled for listening.

Besides hanging out with family and eating good food, the other purpose of the night was to celebrate Faith's birthday. What better time or place to do it? Now she may be too young to fully appreciate Afterglow, but my guess is that she will always look back upon it with the greatest of memories. It's just a shame that she won't be joining us back up here next year. It's a damn shame. But life goes on...

There are only 2 hangout spots more popular than cabin # 2's picnic table - Kurutz's Kourt and the Top of the Raft. But right now this was the place to be, and we gathered more people here than we normally do. I don't have enough space to name every single person, but they all know who they are. We're all family up here.

We called this game the Scotts vs. their Moms because it was Scott and his Mom Gail versus me and my Mom Kris. This match was unfair from the beginning, as little Scott was scoring points like crazy. It was like he was fishing with dynamite, because it was totally unfair to someone who just had fake rubber worms like me.
