Afterglow 2008 - Day 4 Tuesday

The obstacle course is Gail's baby. It's not her real baby, because that would be impossible. If you believed that, then you are stupid. Then I guess it's more like her adopted child that she nurtures and raises like her own. She comes up with all the new ideas and even awards the "BONUS!!" points when tasks are completed.

Most people label the cheap seats as the ones that are the highest up in elevation, but that is somewhat incorrect. The cheap seats are the ones that are the furthest from the action and have the crappiest seating conditions. In that regard, Tim and Kevin pavement spots were the cheap seats at the OC.

A lot of the events in the obstacle course have changed over the years, but one thing that will never go away is the sponge pass because it's a participant and crowd favorite. The biggest challenge is to pass the sponges without squeezing. Or if you're Timmy, it's to squeeze the sponges without your teammates noticing that you are purposefully sabotaging the mission.

Uncle was wearing the 2008 incarnation of the Afterglow T-shirt, and it was thankfully emblazoned with "Glow for It" on the back. Just In case I didn't previously mention it (because I'm too lazy to go back and look it up) Glow for It was Afterglow 2008's slogan. I prefer "Start the Revolution", but to each their own. Next year, if I gather enough ambition and effort to do it, I'm going to make matching Afterglow 2009 t-shirts for all of the family with "Start the Revolution" across the back. We'll be the most popular kids in the yard next year.

I mostly went to watch Faith take part in the obstacle course because that's what big friends do. When I was a kid, the bigger kids came out to support me, and this was my way of paying it forward to the next generation. Now Faith may not ever make it back up here to Afterglow, but she will remember that the big kids came out to the OC to watch her. Then someday she'll support the young ones.
