Florida Spring Break 2008 - Day 5 |
The last day of your vacation always sucks because all of the fun that you had is now over, and you know that you have to go back to work tomorrow. For me it really sucked because I don't like my job, and I also knew that it would be some time before I would see my Dad again. But I was fortunate that my job gives me paid vacation time and travel benefits, or else this little trip would have never happened. So I guess I need to stop whining and start thinking about how good I got it. Not everyone gets to travel around the country to hang with their Pops. |
When I got to the Chicago Midway airport, I intended to get out of here as soon as possible because I can't stand Chicago. But then I found one redeeming factor of Chicago at the food court - Chicago Style Hotdogs. There's just something about a delicious hotdog with all of the fixins that makes my mouth salivate. It's so tasty that I don't even care that it is named after the city that I hate. |
Since I was flying standby and I absolutely needed to be back at work by Monday afternoon, I chose the first flight of the day so that if I didn't make it on that one, I would just catch the next one. And so on, and so on, and so on... You know how these things work. But I did get on the first flight, and although I rode bitch (the middle seat) it was a decent flight, except that it was so early in the morning. |
So I made the drive home from Midway back to Milwaukee. Since I had jumped on the earliest flight of the day, I was able to catch the Brewers broadcast on AM 620 out of Milwaukee and the sweet soothing voices of Bob Uecker and Jim Powell guided me back home. Yovanni Gallardo was making his 1st start of the season, and he went 7 strong innings and only gave up 1 run. The game went sour when Eric Gagne entered the game with the Brewers leading 3-1, and he found a way to blow it and the Brewers lost 4-3. I don't know if I was swearing louder at the radio or the stupid Chicago traffic (why were so many people on the road on a Sunday? What the hell?) But I got over it, because at that time it was still early in the season and there were plenty of games to play to offset this devastating loss. I wish that I could say the same thing now. But at the time, a tall delicious Icee made me feel better, and I got back home with enough time to spare before heading off to work the next day. And that time was spent lounging on the couch and collecting my thoughts. After all that happened this week, I needed a day of rest. |
I'm incredibly lucky that my Dad allows me to come visit him every year. On top of that, I'm even luckier that he keeps moving every year so that I can visit him in a different location. I mentioned on the 1st page of this Florida Spring Break that I have been visiting him for my Spring Break since 2003, and even though I am no longer in college and technically do not have a Spring Break, I hope that he still allows me to visit him next year in March/April of 2009. He has since moved back to Milwaukee, so it won't be like a vacation if I visit him for Spring Break 2009. Who knows, maybe I will take advantage of my company benefits and take a trip down to Mexico with my Dad next year and stay at an all-inclusive resort and drink myself retarded. That would certainly be a Spring Break to remember (or not remember, depending on how much that I have to drink. Tee hee.) Check back next year to see where I go. Cause I know you're just dying to know that stuff. Good day. |
