CineVegas 2008 - The Next Day

Home

Pablo was one of the event coordinators of this function, and he was delighted to meet me. Apparently my reputation preceded myself, as I was already a big deal even before I met the man. I'm just a guy from the Midwest, but to him I was The Iceman, and he treated me with dignity and respect. He promised to grant any wish of mine (within reason) that I wanted in order to make my time here pleasurable. Being the chill guy that I am, I just wanted to hang out and have a good time, so he suggested that we pose for a few pictures. I was happy to oblige. I'm always happy to hang with a fan.

There was this mid-day party in the same room that we played beer pong in last night. This time around, I don't believe that there was any alcohol involved, but I may have been just too partied out to notice. But they did have plenty of Red Bull and new Red Bull Cola, and I must have drank like 10 of those cans because they were free. I was all hopped up on Red Bull, but I had nothing to do.

I took this picture when I was in Cleveland changing planes. I left Las Vegas at like 11:30 PM and crashed hardcore and slept through the entire flight. I woke up when the plane landed in Cleveland, then I got a Ham Croissanwich from Burger King and some mini hashbrowns. It was just enough grease to last me until I made it to my final destination at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.

This is the car that I rented for the duration of my time out here. I had a choice between several compact cars, and I chose this black one because it looked the most sporty if the bunch, It was certainly better than the Subaru that I got when I was out here for WSoBP 3 in January. With this vehicle, I could roll up to valet parking and not feel like a complete loser. It certainly served its purpose.

I slept through the flight from Cleveland to Milwaukee, so to me the trip back home from Las Vegas seemed to be instantaneous. I imagine this is what people in cryostasis in future movies feel like - you are the same but the world has changed around you. It was a very odd feeling, but I had to shake it off and collect myself so that I could get back to reality. And the reality was that my weekend of excitement and being a big deal was over, and I now had to go back to my average job and my average life. Besides my family and close friends, no one back home has seen the movie, so to the majority of the population in Wisconsin, I was just a nobody. But all that is about to change if this movie ever gets distributed to the mass public. Then people will know who the Iceman is. But until then, I'll just be a regular guy trying to figure out his place in this world. Maybe someday that place will jump up and smack me in the face. How else am I supposed to find it?

And then I got to meet Dennis Hopper. He is the chairman of the CineVegas Film Festival, and he seemed like a really nice guy. He was nowhere near as evil as I had seen him as Howard Payne in Speed, Deacon in Waterworld, and King Koopa in Super Mario Bros. I met King Koopa from the live action Super Mario Bros.! How freakin' sweet is that? This movie star thing sure has it's perks.

So if this documentary movie ever gets released, you loyal visitors will be the first ones to find out via one of my communication methods (this site, my blog, cellular telephones, telegraph, smoke signals). Then you can see with your own eyes the film that I gave my message and input into. I'm quite proud of the work that went into the creation of this film, and the performances of the people who truly care about the sport and evolution of beer pong really capture the spirit of the game. This movie is about beer pong, but centers on the 2nd World Series, so for me it will always bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye as I watch and recall all of the great memories. This was a once in a lifetime trip, and one that I will be forever grateful that I took. Not too many people get to do what I have done. I hope that you too may someday get to experience something similar to what I've gone through with this film. We all deserve that much in life.
