Brewers vs. Reds in Cincinnati 2010 - Game 1

And then to top that all off I gave him some Mountain Dew and booze as we were "tailgating" for the Brewers/Reds game. I put it in quotations because tailgating anywhere besides Miller Park is bogus. So we made due by drinking heavily in the hotel room.

Mad Man Dave Foley works at the Hilton in downtown Milwaukee and therefore gets discounted rooms at any of the hotels in the Hilton chain. There were 8 of us on this trip so we got 2 rooms - one for the guys and one for the girls. Our room was designated No Girls Allowed.

We took turns jumping on the beds because that's what you do at hotels. It doesn't matter that they have your credit card on file for incidental damages or room charges, you do it anyway because it's awesome. Flying through the air unabated is the only way to live and I just wish that I was able to do it more often. But sadly it only happens when I stay in hotels, which is only a few times a year. I wish I could always feel like that.

Our hotel was in Florence, KY and Great American Ball Park is obviously in Cincinnati, OH. Dave insisted that we all take a cab ride there because we were drinking (that's why they call him Mad Man!) We probably could have drove instead of paying for the $27 cab ride, which is (spoiler!) something that will come into play later in this story. But for now we proudly wore our sombreros and entered into the stadium.

The game starts at 7pm local time and I'm pretty sure that we were there around 6pm. Aside from when I work the games at Miller Park I'm never in the stadium this early, so I don't know what people do with the allotted time. Had Kevin been 21 (he was only 20 at the time) we would've gone to a local watering hole nearby but instead we gravitated towards the first few rows on the field level, where we watched the Brewers batting practice.

You've seen the people at Miller Park who harass you and take your picture for the website. They do that in Cincinnati too. I personally think it is pretty stupid but I understand those people are just doing a job. Who would but those overpriced pictures when you can just copy and paste them from the website? Sure, it has that proof watermark on it, but it's all the same right? Better than spending $7.99 for crap.

As you can see the stadium was pretty empty. Despite the Cincinnati Reds winning the NL Central in 2010, the fan support was not there for the year. I don't understand this because the Brewers can finish under .500 and still draw 3 million fans. When you have a winning team you should come out to support them. But to each their own I suppose. Needless to say with our Brewers gear and sombreros we stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the red seats of GABP so Brewers outfielder Chris Dickerson (remember him?) noticed us and Kevin asked him to sign his sombrero. Even though he is a nobody, it was still a big moment for the sombrero because until today, it had never been autographed. Thanks Chris.
