Brewers vs. Reds in Cincinnati 2010 - Louisville

Clermont, KY is further South than our eventual destination of Cincinnati but we really wanted to go there, and I'm glad we did. On the way back North we stopped in Louisville, KY - home of the world famous Louisville Slugger Bat Factory. I've been here once before but it was Kevin's first visit to the land where the bats are born.

The Louisville Slugger factory is cool the first time you visit but on the second go around it's not as cool, hence the lack of pictures. If you want to read about my first visit, head over here. Last time I don't remember Ken Griffey Jr. being here, so I hung out with him. He was always my brother James' favorite player, so it was great.

We had driven through the night and neither of us really slept. It's only an 8 hour drive, but we were starting to get a little tired. We each decided to take a little nap in the oversized glove at the Louisville Bat Factory. I don't know what this giant sculpture of a glove was doing at a bat factory, but it was a perfect place for a couple of hobos like us to squeeze in 40 winks. The sleep was brief, but it gave us enough strength to carry on.

It's pretty cool to walk through the factory and witness the production of bats. Players can specify the weight and the length of their bats and the factory produces them. A lot of Major League baseball players use Louisville Slugger bats but that does not account for their entire production. Plenty of amateurs also use their product, and I'm sure that I've swung my fair share of their bats in the past. But it was so much cooler to swing the same type of bat that Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth used in the batting cages at the factory. Made me feel almost like a major leauger.

Some people confuse Babe Ruth with Paul Bunyan. While they both could be described as being a mountain of a man, Bunyan stood at 190 feet tall or something and Ruth was 6 foot 2 inches. I'm no scholar or anything, but that's a pretty big difference. This bat outside of the Louisville Factory is supposed to be a replica of one that Ruth used but by the gigantic width and length of it, I would be willing to bet that Paul Bunyan used to use it to beat Babe the Blue Ox when that bastard stepped out of line and wouldn't listen. Then when he was tired he leaned it against this building and it's been here ever since.

Ever since I've seen the little known Ernest movie "Ernest Rides Again" I've had a penchant for riding cannons. This would be the 2nd time I jumped aboard a cannon with the first time being in Mauston, WI. I live my life just like Ernest P Worrell did - on the edge.

After bumming around downtown Louisville for a bit we decided to grab a bite to eat. We settled on this pizza joint cause we're poor and we like pizza. Not a bad combo if you ask me. Sure I'd like to reach for the stars and go for more, but that's all that I've got for right now.
