Brewers Spring Training 2014 - Day 3

I saw this kid with Gerken on his back and thought wait, that isn't a savory pickled cucumber. That's a little boy. Well then why was he masquerading as one? And why was I creepily taking pictures of other people's kids? OK. That's enough with the questions.

The outfield today consisted of Caleb Gindl, Carlos Gomez and Logan Schafer. It most certainly would not be that way when the regular season begins in a few weeks, but that's the beauty of Spring Training. You get to see these other guys in action.

I made a big fuss the last few days about the lack of outfield seating and expensive tickets at Spring Training ballparks. That is why I was so excited to come to Maryvale Ballpark today (aside from it being the home of the Brewers). They probably have the most plentiful grass area with it spanning the entire length of the outfield and it was a steal at only $8. That's some good old fashioned fun.

If you've ever been to a baseball game with me then you know that I don't sit in my ticketed seat location. The same goes down here even though my ticketed location said "lawn". For the most part I hung out in the leftfield (which of course is the home of the sombrero) but I also went behind homeplate to watch part of the game. I made a full lap around the park and just enjoyed being down here.

Eventually I settled back in the leftfield grass to watch the end of the game. I bought some Robinade and mixed in the rum that I snuck in. It was here that I recorded another episode of "25 Brewers in 25 Days" with this one featuring Shortstop Jean Segura. I got the most looks while doing this one, but I'm used to getting looks while wearing a sombrero. It's an added benefit that they didn't tell me about when I started wearing one.

It was rush hour when the game ended so it was going to take me a good hour to get across town to my Aunt Linda's house. I decided to take city streets cause the freeway looked worse. When I got there I was hungry, so I stopped and grabbed a sammy at the store. It was delicious but expensive.

The Brewers tied it up at 8 in the 9th inning and then won it in the 10th inning and all except the Arizona Diamondbacks and their fans got to go home happy. After the game I stuck around and saw some players and Manager Ron Roenicke. Since I didn't have a pen or a ball, I took a selfie without his permission.

When I got back to the apartment there was nothing really going on so I went in the pool. My Aunt had been working late all this week and my cousin Troy is pretty much nocturnal now as he stays up all night playing online computer games and then sleeps all day. Tyler was taking advantage of his Spring Break by catching up on some ZZs so I was left to my own devices. Usually that doesn't end well but I too was pretty tired. Despite not doing much, it felt like a really long day. So I crashed early and prepared for another adventure.
