Afterglow 2016 - Day 6 Thursday

There were plenty of family members in attendance for the Championship game. And although I don't know what it was like to be them (as I was playing in said game instead of sitting on the sidelines), I'd have to imagine that it would be hard to pick a side. How do you choose between Curtis & Pinkman and Mom & Me? Wait.. don't answer that question. I don't want to know where your allegiance lies. Some questions should be unanswered.

By virtue of winning our last game, we moved on to the Championship match against Curtis & Pinkman. I wish that I could tell you that it was a fell fought battle on both sides. I wish that I could tell you that all players fought valiantly until the bitter end. I wish that I could tell you that it was even a close game. But the reality of it is that I have no idea how the game went with the exception of the outcome - Curtis & Pinkman emerged victorious. And good for them. Not only I am glad to see a new team take the crown (as Mom and I have won several championships) but I also am overjoyed to see a family team win it all. It says a lot for Chester & Marilyn's offspring, their grandchildren and the people with whom they have chosen to welcome into the family through marriage. I wouldn't have it any other way.

After (and probably during) the Horseshoe Championship game is a happy hour bonanza. Gail brings out the lemonade, people bring the appetizers and we bring the booze and we all have a Merry Christmas... in July. And why not? I always feel like December is a bad time to celebrate "the most wonderful time of the year". There is nothing about December that makes me happy and celebratory. If I had it my way, Christmas would be celebrated during the last week of July. That is when I am in the happiest place on Earth with all of the people that I love most in the World. Why is Christmas in December anyway? H0w do you know Jesus was born on the 25th? Where you there?

For happy hour, Gail had a pot of hotdogs and cheese sauce. I was in absolute heaven as these were two of my favorite things. When put on a bun and slathered in ketchup, I was certainly Getenet. While I know the other people didn't do it like I did, I know that they were Getenet too. Because if they weren't, why were they here?

Susie, Uncle Rick and Curtis pushed off for a little boat ride before it got too dark to navigate these waters. And why not? Curtis had to leave to go back home, so might as well enjoy one last ride.

Even though there was a plentiful spread laid out in front of us, something was missing. We figured out exactly what it was when Gail started pouring shots and handing it to everyone within arms reach. And so we cheered health, happiness, Afterglow and family.

The Moms (Gail, Carol, Nancy, Kris, Rose and wannabe Mom Dale) gathered for a picture to celebrate this moment. I wasn't going to be the one to stop them. Do you know what happens when you try to stop a Mom from having her moment? All out destruction, that's what. Because if Mom ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. That's a fact. One that has been around since the first Mother birthed the first child.

The upstairs fire was lit and ready to welcome people, but I don't know who was going to sit by it when the action was in the lodge. That's right folks! It's Awards & Video night! Who's excited?!?
