Afterglow 2012 - Day 6 Thursday

It started raining again at night so music by the campfire and raging on KK was once again out of the question. It seems like it has been forever since we were able to do that. Damn rain. But when life gives you lemons you just say F the lemons and bail. Mom decided to spend the night at another cabin with the adults and we had free range over Cabin #2. Brian and Kevin decided this would be a good opportunity to stand outside the glass and act like idiots. And everyone on the inside had no choice but to point and stare.

Brian is such a mess. I say that with all due respect and out of love. They kid is wearing a dirty white shirt and has two different colored socks on. And I didn't even mention that he somehow fell backwards in the recliner and ended up in this position.

After we got our fill of horseshoes, snacks, alcoholic slushies and grass Kevin and I made our way out to the HD for another round of swimming. The weather improved slightly which allowed us to hang out on the board instead of in the water, which was good.

Home

Thursday night is Awards/Video Night at Afterglow. It used to be a big deal for us when we participated in all of the events that would have garnered us awards or got us in the video. The chances are slim that we'll see ourselves in pictures or videos but we keep going anyway. We changed out of our suits, filled our bottles with a fresh drink and walked towards the lodge for an Afterglow tradition.

Stacy and Aunt Sandy went out in kayaks to enjoy the waters of Afterglow Lake from the surface. I bet that it was a real nice time and I have to give Aunt Sandy some props for kayaking with a sombrero. She is without a doubt the Mother of the Revolution.

The sun was finally out it and it looks rather warm. Right now in January when the temperature is 21 degrees and I'm all bundled up I'm yelling at me in the picture to stay out in the water and enjoy the weather. But Kevin and I were out of the lake and off to somewhere else where we would no doubt create mischief wherever we go. We're like a hurricane. An unstoppable force.

Since they are wearing swimsuits I'm going to assume that Jenny and Stacy also went swimming but I don't have recorded proof. Some things you just have to believe without seeing. I don't ask questions mostly because I don't care. What's the point?

By the head alone I'm going to go ahead and assume that this is Brian in the water. Because of all of his napping he doesn't have a lot of time left for swimming. He too signed the Pact saying he'd swim every day so he often has to go alone to fulfill his promise.

The video ended up being pretty sweet. Pete used to just film events but now he is constantly snapping pictures. He takes a few videos and mixes them in with a slideshow set to music. He's gotten quite good at capturing the week we have up here. When it came time to dish out awards I happily accepted (along with my roommate) a blue ribbon for Horseshoe Champions, making it the 3rd time that we have won that award. I don't want to claim that we have a dynasty going on here but let this stand as a formal challenge to anyone out there who thinks they can beat us - bring it on pal.

It's a good thing that Mom left because we were being drunken buffoons and she wouldn't find this sort of nonsense amusing. But I certainly did. We were playing guitar and sang a round of Down by the Bay but used some "Have you ever seen a ______ with a ________" that were not appropriate for Mom ears. Jenny Reck once again stole the show and we all laughed until it hurt. Although I'd rather be raging on KK, raging in cabin #2 with the cousins is the next best thing. As long as we are all together we can rage.

Tonight was a lot of fun. I love my family. They have the ability to turn what would have been a boring night stuck inside of the cabin into one of the best nights at Afterglow. As long as I have them life will be a wild ride. One that I'm never getting off of.
