Afterglow 2012 - Day 5 Wednesday

Eventually the skies cleared up and we gravitated back outside. We sign up for the Horseshoe Tournament every year but always forget to play our games until the last minute. With Mr. Sun still hiding behind the clouds it was an opportune time to get a game out of the way. When the weather gets foul a lot of the Moms head into town to do some shopping which meant that the kids were left to run the kingdom. Thankfully Gary and Brian were scheduled to play against Jenny and Kevin. Seeing as all of them were present and accounted for, it was time to get down and dirty in the pit. These family battles are always entertaining for an outsider to watch.

Kevin wasn't down with the blackjack thing. I don't know if he secretly had something against the dealer or didn't want to play for fun. Maybe this book was more enticing. Whatever it was the beauty of Afterglow is that we get to choose what we want to do at any given time. That's what makes this place paradise.

Even though no one else at the resort would be swimming today we still decided to go for two reasons - we don't go along with the crowd and we signed a pact saying that we would swim every day no matter what. On days like this the place is like a ghost town and you don't expect to run into anyone. We were surprised to see Mark at the beach feeding the fish, who were all gathered in the area because this was apparently the only source of food. With no one fishing or throwing food elsewhere, Mark's hotdog was the hottest dish in town.

These Tres Sombreros got left out in the rain this morning after last night's fiesta. I wish I could blame for the tequila for this atrocity but I have to blame the people who left them out. With great sombrero comes great responsibility. Remember that.

If you were to say that it didn't look like a good day to go swimming then you would be correct. The morning rain and lack of sun didn't do anything to help increase the air or water temperature so we didn't stay out there that long. We went out just long enough to go off of the HD a few times before coming back in for a dip in the HT. Swimming is the best thing to do up here so when it is taken away from us it really dampens the mood of the day. But we don't let that stop us. The rage will never die. Not on my watch.

Gary and Brian ended up winning the game which is not that hard to believe considering the competition. With all due respect Gary and Brian are the better athletes and certainly would have been picked as the favorites to win this match. And they did.

If Afterglow is our 2nd home then the HD is our 3rd home. I guess that would make the KK our 4th home and the HT our 5th. Do people have 5 homes? I'm sure there are some rich people out there who can claim that they do. Imagine all the property taxes! Even though none of us are rich in the monetary sense I can promise you that our 5 homes are better than any one else's in the world, even if we technically don't own any of these homes. Although we don't all fit into home #5, there is still plenty of space on the floor for overflow.

We all ended up hanging out in Cabin #2 which usually ends up happening. Mom is very gracious with opening up our living space to the general public. Even though it was a toned down day in the rage department I still found the time to drink Daily's out of a measuring pitcher. I don't think everyone else was quite on my level but Stacy, Brian, Tommy and Jenny joined Mom in a rousing game of Scattergories, which is one of my family's favorite games. Chaos with words ensues and I was fortunate to have a front row seat.

Most nights we go to the campfire then on to KK to rage. We would have done that except that it was still raining. Like people without a country we wandered until we found a place to settle. This ended up being Brian's cabin where we played blackjack. It wasn't as fun as Cousin Poker, but at least it was something.
