Afterglow 2014 - Day 7 Friday |
We got back to the cabin as darkness was approaching. It was now becoming painfully clear that this was our last day at Afterglow. Brian must have been really upset when this sunk in because he stared forward at the wall and didn't say a word. I just sat there in a depressed state, fearful for the days and months that would follow once the Afterglow Blues took hold of me. Stacy and Kevin had a better way of dealing with this night - shock and rage. The last day at Afterglow shouldn't be a sad time, it should be a celebration. Every single minute up here should be one of the best minutes of our year. That includes those last few precious minutes. |
The night ends as most every night ends up here - with a campfire. But I don't think we played any music on that night. We had run out of songs that we knew (we've been meaning to work on that over the past 4 years since we haven't had Timmy's wealth of song knowledge at our disposal) so we decided to sit back and enjoy the nighttime ambiance. This also gave us the chance to enjoy some delicious s'mores again. I don't know if you've ever tried, but it's hard to sing with marshmallow in your mouth. I was surprised that it was only Mom and the kids who were out at the fire tonight, but maybe everyone just raged way too hard this week to join us. |
It has already been established that Blondebeard destroys things (hence the nickname "The Destroyer"). This doesn't pertain to just screen doors, raft ladders and picnic tables. He also destroys relationships, ladies' hearts, food and s'mores. This kid is such a mess, but I promise you that he's the good kind of mess (if there can be one). He's one in a billion my friends. |
I've had a digital camera since Fall 2001. I've been taking pictures at Afterglow since 2002 (you can find every year on the home page). Despite coming up here for most of my life and taking thousands of pictures, ones like this still affect on an emotional level. This is something that I see every night up here and it never ceases to amaze me. Afterglow is the most beautiful place in the entire world to me. |
