Afterglow 2003 - Day 4 (page 14)
The light started to dim on the 4th day, and a competitive round of horseshoes dawned. This time around, it was Dale + Carol vs. Tim + Susie. After careful examination of the match up, I decided that Dale's skillful follow-through and Carol's pinpoint accuracy would be the deciding factor.
I don't doubt Tim at all, cause that kid surprises me on a daily basis. But when it comes to horseshoes, Tim + Susie are missing the years of experience and the mastery of the sport that Dale + Carol possess. There is nothing they could do to overcome that fact. Tim + Susie lost that match, but they played well, and everyone in attendance had a good time. But something good did come out of it, Dale promised to be the manager of June's Blanket if we signed a promotional contract with Coca-Cola. Now Tim and I both adore Pepsi products (especially Mountain Dew), so the switch was difficult. But all the money that we get out of it will be worth the price.
Now this is why we have families - for support. A good-sized crowd came out, with both teams having some representation in the audience. What made them great was that even though they each wanted their family to win, they cheered for everyone, providing for a good-natured and entertaining afternoon. But that's what makes Afterglow so good.
Susie winds up to take a shot, and one has to wonder if last year's defeat is still lingering in her head. Last year Tim + Susie were defeated in the opening round, and they've been waiting for this moment to prove themselves.
