Afterglow 2004 - Day 5
Tommy picked the jacket that would fit most snugly around his tiny body, and it happened to be this yellow one. For some reason, it just looks really funny on him.
James, Tim and cousin Chris get a pep talk form Chris' grandma, in which she tells us about hey heyday as canoeing champion of the free world
Gail (center) lays out the course for everyone involved. It sounds simple - make a figure eight in the water, going as far as a floating buoy and come back to shore, but the blindfolds involved allow for hilarious escapades.
Pete took the kayak out to provide not only safety for the blind canoe-ers, but also to protect them from the hovering eagles that would see them as prey.
My Mom Kris (in the middle of the left canoe) went out with her friends Rose (back) and Carol (front) to prove that Moms can kick ass in blind canoe races.
The rest of the teams (which included children of the three Moms) glance over at their competition and stare them down. They figured those Moms had nothing on them. Boy, were they wrong...
The teams line up and receive a push off from several willing volunteers on the shore. 4 teams competed, but only one could win. I was filming this race with the camcorder, so I have only this starting pic...
...And this finishing pic. James and Tim came in 2nd (I don't know who was 1st) but they tipped near the finish line and whined about the lakeweed. They caused such a stir that I didn't see Brian and Tommy tip over.
