Afterglow 2006 - Jenny's 21st Birthday

We had a nice eclectic group of individuals that joined Jenny out for this monumental celebration. We headed out to North Ave. because there are plenty of bars to go to. I can't remember how many bars we went to in the 2 hours of available bar time, but I do know this picture was taken at Vittuchi's and we ended the night at Rascal's for karaoke. Jenny and I sang some Journey and the crowd loved it.

I'm including pictures from Jenny's 21st birthday in the Afterglow section for two reasons. 1 - her birthday came 4 days after we got home from Afterglow and 2 - if I don't put them here they will never appear on this website. Our plan was to go out to the bars at midnight, but we did a little pre-partying at Tim's house before so that some of her underage friends (mostly Timmy) could join in on the festivities.

My favorite part about Jenny's birthday was being able to be a part of this milestone in her life. My second favorite part was being too hung over to go into work the next day. I love that it wasn't even my birthday and I got ridiculously wasted. So I called in sick, then got a call from Jenny that Jason was taking her to the Lakefront Brewery for a tour. Jason worked at Sendik's grocery store in the liquor department, and he was able to get us a free tour of the brewery through the connections he has made through his job. It was super hot and humid, so I really didn't feel like drinking, but that didn't stop my comrades from enjoying some of Lakefront Brewery's finest alcoholic beverages.

When Milwaukee County Stadium closed in 2000, the Brewers sold everything that they possibly could from the stadium that people would want to buy. I recently found a catalog of items from the auction and sale of County Stadium stuff when I was cleaning up, and I was surprised of all the things that were up for sale. You could buy anything, including sinks, toilets, the benches from the dugouts, lockers from the locker room, stadium seats, signs, the padding on the outfield wall, and Bernie's chalet and beer mug he used to slide into. No one wanted to buy the last two items I mentioned, so the Lakefront Brewery got them at a price that they call a real steal. If I would have known that these items were affordable, I would have taken up a collection from my friends and then fond somewhere to put this treasured artifact. But since the Lakefront Brewery beat me to it, I guess I'll just go there and visit Bernie's chalet and beer mug every opportunity that I get.

Because of safety and and insurance risks, they don't allow people to climb up into the chalet and slide down into a frosty beer mug. It's too bad really, because I really could have used a dip in an ice-cold frosty beer. It was hot as hell in that building, and we were sweating like mad. The fact that I was hung over only made it seem that much hotter. Just when I thought that we couldn't possibly enjoy ourselves here, we made friends with some lesbians from Michigan who were here for the first time. We talked for a while, then invited them out to The Safehouse for the rest of Jenny's birthday celebration.

I don't really remember what happened after we left the Lakefront Brewery, but I do know that we didn't go to the Safehouse until 8 or 9 pm. My best guess is that I went home to take a nap so that I would be well rested for the night. We finally decided to drive on over to the Safehouse, and while we were looking for parking, we saw those two lesbians exiting out of the bar. We had just missed them, and we were all shocked that they actually showed up. I hope that they had a nice time in Milwaukee and at the bar, because they both were very nice and friendly, and they make a cute and manly couple. If you've never been to the Safehouse, I suggest that you go there as soon as possible, provided that you are 21 of course. You really have to go there to appreciate how interesting and unique this bar really is, especially if you are into spies and James Bond movies. We partied with her friend Ryan Boerst and sang some karaoke. They ended up staying late, but I went home around midnight because I couldn't miss 2 days of work in a row.

I want to write a "whimsical and enlightening moral of the story redemption point" here, something along the lines like "I've been blessed with a wonderful family because I get to do things that most people who don't have families never get to experience" but I don't know what to write because I just provided a whole page celebrating a drinking holiday. That and the fact that I'm in one of the many inclining or declining stages of drunkenness. Mom would be so proud of me. Man, it's tough to sound intelligent when you've been drinking...
